MAX event – talk about documentation – win stuff!

Just want to let you guys know about our MAX sessions next week. I’ll be there to talk about documentation, Flash, and so on — we have some discussions topics on hand, but more than anything just want to talk to the people that use the documentation and get your ideas and feedback on it all.

Information on the two sessions is below. Also, I’ll be hanging out in and around the Community pit quite a bit (I’ll have flyers of what you see below in case you forget to write this down!) Hope to see you there!

Discuss docs with the team

What do you think of the documentation?

The Macromedia Studio 8 documentation team would like to hear what you think about the in-product help, Getting Started manuals, product tutorials, sample files, and the Studio 8 documentation experience in general.

  1. Dang! I never get to go anywhere!!! ;)Hope you guys have a great time.

  2. I won’t be able to make MAX so I thought I’d tell give my 2 cents here.Flash 8 documentation kicks. It has improved a LOT since the MX days. One problem I have is finding the info that I want, but that’s typically because I’m not sure what I’m looking for exactly. Even times like that don’t last long since there are links everywhere. There was some serious effort put in here and it’s quite evident when you look something up and find yourself a couple of levels in further than where you started because of relevant content linked through different areas.Of course there are some issues but they seem to be technical – something LiveDocs is great for.Glad to see the Help now accepts more than 3 levels of content!Although not strictly documentation, the dropdown for codehint/left-pane structure in the AS panel is something I’m looking forward to experimenting with.I haven’t used the search tool, so I can’t comment on that. Mostly it’s because I’m able to find a lot of what I’m looking for by simply navigating the books, or following links from a similar topic. Also glad to see the increase of documentation on the components. At first it looks a little overwhelming because of the number of items under each component, but more info in the references is a good thing. One technical issue with the Help panel is the tooltip doesn’t appear for more than one item unless you move the mouse out of the left-pane and back again. Not a big one, but still there from MX04.Anyhow, great job.
