Update! Click here (Tips for Working with Color in Photoshop CC) to see all tips for working with color in Photoshop CC in a single post.

Photoshop has two options for saving swatches from the Swatches Panel: Save Swatches (.aco) or Save Swatches for Exchange (.ase). Although Photoshop can load both files, the Exchangeable Swatches feature allows you to save your swatches from Photoshop in a format that can then be loaded into Illustrator and InDesign.

Many of you already probably know that both saved swatches files can be loaded via the Swatches fly-out menu however it’s not widely knows that they can also placed in the Photoshop swatches folder (Adobe Photoshop > Presets > Color Swatches) so that they will appear automatically from the Swatches panel’s drop down menu.
