This year is flying by and I can’t believe that in less than a month, I’ll be immersed in Iceland with Einar, Gummi and the the crew from Focus On Nature, capturing the magical landscape that unrolls before me. There are still a few spots left for our fantastic excursion and we would love to have you join us!

We will begin with two full days of Lightroom 4.1 and Photoshop CS6 training in Reykjavik (July 6-7) giving everyone in the class the opportunity to create a personalized “workflow”, customized to best meet the needs of their specific photographic journey. We will discover how to most efficiently download, organize, edit and create the highest quality images while making sure that we keep them safe by using best practices for saving and archiving images.

By mastering the technical details early in the week, we will then be free to focus on capturing images that tell our own personal story. On Monday, we will travel into the field – all of the time discussing composition, compositing, style, subject, atmosphere, color, emotion and more. Following the weather, we will have the chance to photograph magnificent landscapes – glaciers and icebergs, mudflats and black-sand valleys, the incredible Icelandic horse and other wildlife. And we will take full advantage of the long, golden hours in the mornings and evenings that grace Iceland this time of year.

In addition to pushing the boundaries on more “traditional” images, we will spend time discussing and capturing emotionally charged imagery to be used in imaginative composites. Looking at each personal project, we will peruse themes, find supporting elements and discuss how individual parts may fit together to create an image that is more than simply the sum of its parts.

By the time we return to Reykjavik, our portfolios will be overflowing, including everything from vast landscapes to minute details and textures that we document on our journey. And I know from experience, Einar, Gummi and the entire Focus on Nature team will take care of every last detail so that our stay in Iceland is the experience of a lifetime.

Come and pursue your personal project with us in Iceland - it will be a photographic adventure that you will never forget!
