In this video tutorial (Lightroom 5 – Improved Book Creation Experience), you’ll discover the new enhancements made to the Book module including page numbering, easier text creation, and custom templates.

Great video and I love the book module. I have one question. I used the same template to create 4 different books. They are used for pricing and for client specific sales. Is there a way to save each back into the library when I have tweaked the book?
I just exported the PDF and then tweaked the next book for my next client. I shoot pets, kids and families so each one needed new images and product.
My problem is I noticed one item I need to correct. Can I import a PDF so I can edit in the module or do I need to recreate each book in the book module and export it ?
    Thanks for the help.

when you are finished creating the book, you can click in the upper right of the preview area in order to Save the book . That will save is a it’s own book creation that you can quickly return to.

    Hi Julieanne,
When I upgrade to LT 5, will my working copy of a book be undisturbed? I want to upgrade but fear losing what I’ve done. Thanks!
Thank you for ALL your help through the years! I’ve taken many of your classes!
    All my best,
    Mary Lou

If you have saved the book (by clicking “Create Saved Book” while in the book module) you should be all set.

    Hi Julieanne-

I tried posting this before but for some reason it hasn’t shown up in the blog comments…

I bought LR 5 primarily for the new book customization features…sadly they are short of what I was hoping. But this time rather than just bag it with LR, I’ve spent a ton of time and got myself fairly comfortable with the app and will likely continue using it alongside Photoshop.

I’m still trying to figure out a couple of solutions with the book module.

My biggest complaint with Blurb (and I have contacted them a number of times asking why this can’t be changed and still have not received an answer that holds up to common sense scrutiny) is that they do not allow the cover to be drop in full bleed files – they can set what ever parameters they want, just tell me what size constraint I need to be aware of and I will…

The next thing I am working on is a solution to make my own page templates for use within LR. Presently I use PS and make all the layouts on a full bleed page sized background, name them by page number and drop them into Booksmart with autofill. It works, but it is like recreating the wheel for every page (and I’ve done more than 40 books just with Blurb).

Is there any way to accomplish what I want…perhaps by making a template and saving within the book module as a jpg? And then drop files into preset frames?

This has me up nights thinking about it and every time I think I’m almost there, I find that it won’t work in LR but actually does work better in PS. I’m not sure it isn’t really a layers issue, but then I try to figure out just how the LR templates work.

    Any ideas or advice?
