• Spacebar + Command (Mac) | Spacebar + Control + Alt  (Win) will temporarily give you the Zoom In tool without having to switch to the Zoom tool.

• Spacebar + Option + Option (Mac)/ Spacebar + Alt (Win) will temporarily give you the Zoom Out tool without having to switch to the Zoom tool.

On Mac, it’s important the order that you hold down the keyboard modifiers – press the spacebar first – otherwise Apple’s “spotlight” is activated.

OK, except: on a Mac those keys are in use by Spotlight.
    I’m sure there’s a workaround.

Should have checked. Of course Spotlight preferences in System Preferences lets you turn that off or assign a different key combo.

But also, not to nitpick: I’m finding Command-Spacebar is zoom in and Command-Option-Spacebar is zoom out.

Thanks for the catch Jim! And I’ve clarified that if you hold the spacebar down first (before the other keyboard modifiers), then spotlight doesn’t get highlighted. : )

And in Lightroom just press space when you have a tool selected while zoomed in to pan. :)

On a pc, zoom in is Spacebar + Ctrl (no Alt)
