Friday Photos: Slam dunks to Zeppelin

• Slate features a Magnum collection of photos from Afghanistan. I find this one especially weirdly compelling.
• Photography via Flash:
  • Phi Slamma Jamma: USA Today uses Flash + burst photography to give a better look at the latest NBA slam dunk contest. [Via]

• The MacGyver chronicles:
  • Found Photography shows how to build your own tilt-shift lens using, among other things, an old bike innertube. [Via]
  • In a similar vein, you can build a homemade bellows kit for $25.
  • You can build your own Nikon geotagger for under $100.  Side effects may include lower back pain and loss of dignity. (Hopefully cams with built-in geotagging are truly right around the corner).

  • I’m super late in mentioning it, but Ben Long has posted v3.6 of his handy–and free–set of Photoshop Automator Actions.
  • Joe Lencioni has posted Smart Image Resizer, “a ridiculously easy-to-use PHP script for resizing images the smart way.”
• Vintage:
  • Blast from the past: Giant ear trumpets, no Photoshop required.
  • Photographer Ted Harvey shot Led Zeppelin in ’72, but his photos never saw the light of day.  Now, some 35 years later, he’s taking them on tour to raise money at Rock Photo Aid.  [Via Max Ferguson]
