Loud and obnoxious New Yorkers! I resemble that remark!
There was an article in last month's Smithsonian, about New Yorkers... http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/mytown-newyork.html
What was even more interesting, were the letters to the editor they published, the following month, with all the "...what are you talking about? I love and/or hate New Yorkers!"
[You know, it's funny: I was at dinner next to Debbie Grossman from Popular Photography last night, and it turns out she lived just a couple of blocks from me in Brooklyn when I was there. We talked about how often New Yorkers have to tell you *just how great* the city is and *just how much* they love it--because living there is largely an expensive, cramped pain in the ass! It's of course a great place and I actually did love living there, but it's also weirdly insecure in some ways. --J.]
People's misconceptions about things are funny. It reminds me of when I went to Ireland, and spent a great time, talking to a humble (my misconception) sheep farmer, who knew more about American politics and foreign policy than I did.
