To Bill,

It's intentional that Lightroom 3 doesn't remove previous versions. Many of our customers prefer to have both installed side-by-side, until they're familiar with the new version. As you noted, you can remove previous versions easily through Programs and Features.

I'm really not clear what you mean by the Windows Explorer dialogs opening photos in Lightroom 3. Do you mean you want to drag photos from Windows into Lightroom 3?

If the rave reviews are for the Noise reduction in Lightroom, then those same RAVES would apply to the "Free" Adobe Bridge (with ACR 6.1) as well, would it not?

I like free.

I've been using Bridge through CS3-5 and I wonder if it is worth aquiring Lightroom 3. Is it so unique a product that I would not find some of it's
offerings in CS5?

John - upgrading from 2.7 to 3 on Windows 7 didn't go quite as smoothly as I'd hoped. The program doesn't offer to remove 2.7 (or even mention it) - although it did pick up automatically the serial number. When I then removed 2.7 through the Programs and Features function, the Windows Explorer dialog to open photos in Lightroom 3 no longer worked. Repair had no effect either, so I had to remove Lightroom 3 completely and then reinstall.
Hope this is useful feedback.

I hope Adobe manages to recover some database performance with upcoming bugfix updates - keywording and rating photos took a serious performance hit for me (CPU maxing out repeatedly for several seconds).
