Video: “Bullet time lightning”

A Tesla coil plus a 10-camera array of custom-programmed Canon cameras = Rob Flickenger’s 70 megapixel bullet time lightning.

Neat idea, but the execution could use some work. The video doesn’t help me visualize the 3D shape of the electricity. The blending of frames in this video makes it harder to see. I took out the blended frames from the GIF using Photoshop and it looked a bit better. I think it would benefit from the cameras being closer together.

Even better is just looking at two sequential frames stereoscopicly.

I’d like to see a stereoscopic aurora borealis. I think the cameras would have to be miles apart, though, and it might be an anisotropic effect that would make stereoscopy worthless.
