Today, Jeff Whatcott, Vice President of Marketing at Brightcove posted a blog entry discussing Brightcove and HTML5, and the support for an emerging mobile ecosystem for media consumption. As many people know, Brightcove and Adobe are great partners in a joint mission to bring the highest quality video experience to the largest audience possible. To serve this mission, Brightcove relies on the Adobe Flash Platform, and its customers benefit from the great experiences that can be delivered through Flash to the largest audience.
Flash Player 10.1 will make it possible to run the standard Brightcove video player on mobile platforms with the same fidelity and features as desktop platforms. Today, the vast majority of Brightcove customers deliver their video using Flash and, with over 75% of all online video in Flash and Flash Player on 98% of desktops and a growing number of smartphones, tablets, netbook and smartbooks, vs the emerging ecosystem around HTML 5, it is safe to assume that Flash will remain the primary path for high quality video distribution for Brightcove customers.
As Jeff mentions, Brightcove continues to invest in and deepen its support for the Flash Platform.
Last month Brightcove unveiled the Brightcove Mobile Experience for Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1, which will enable organizations to easily deliver an optimized video viewing experience across smartphone platforms running Flash Player 10.1, including Google Android, Symbian S60, Palm webOS, Windows Mobile and Research in Motion BlackBerry. The solution makes it possible to deploy video that adapts on demand to the playback environment to deliver a superior experience across desktops and mobile devices. Customers already taking advantage of the Brightcove Mobile Experience for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 include AOL, Atlantic Records, La Vanguardia, National Geographic, The New York Times, STV, Sun Media and The Weinstein Company. While Brightcove, like Adobe, is a supporter of innovation such as HTML5, we are confident that high quality video experiences are likely to be in Flash. Flash solves key challenges that both media companies and providers like Brightcove face, such the ability to deliver ubiquitous “it just works” end-user experiences and key features such as content protection and dynamic media delivery for quality.
