To coincide with the release of Flash Player 9 and the underlying ActionScript 3.0 language, we are releasing a preview of the next version of the Flash authoring tool, scheduled for release in 2007. This preview extends the capabilities of Flash Professional 8 to include support for the new ActionScript 3.0 language in Flash Player 9.

    From the Flash 9 Public Alpha release notes:
    Help
    Help files are not installed with Flash Professional 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview.

    If you want to use the Flash 8 help files with Flash Professional 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview, copy the help files from Flash 8 to the equivalent location in Flash Professional 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview.
    On MAC, copy all files and folders from
    :Users:Shared:Library:Application Support:Macromedia:Flash 8::Configuration:HelpPanel
    to
    :Users:Shared:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Flash 9 Public Alpha::Configuration:HelpPanel
    On WIN, copy all files and folders from
    \Documents and Settings\All Users\Local Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash 8\\Configuration\HelpPanel
    to
    \Documents and Settings\All Users\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash 9 Public Alpha\\Configuration\HelpPanel
    The Components Panel is disabled when using the Public Alpha because SWC export and AS 3 components were not ready.
    Please read the release notes to find out which features are disabled in the public alpha and where you can find documentation on using the AS 3 build on live docs.

  • By Daniel Taborga - 1:12 PM on October 30, 2006   Reply

    Hi Mohammad,
    All Labs releases are English-only at this time. The final version of Flash 9 may support the Arabic language; but, this decision has not been made or announced yet.

    Hello,
    I am disappointed with the response regarding Arabic and Flash implementation because from looking at forums – thousands of people are looking for this basic feature that Microsoft has supported for years (i.e. full right to left language support).
    I would have thought given the first Adobe / Macromedia Flash user feedback surveys were conducted in 2005 (for Version 9) where this was mentioned numerous times – Adobe would have done something to implement this or at least it would be clear by now if this was part of the new version of Flash which I assume is not far from completion. I would expect this more so given that Adobe Products generally have good Arabic support so I thought Adobe taking over would have some benefits.
    Flash users and the whole Middle Eastern Market have waited years for this and have used substandard methods and plugins to work around. I would like to know when we will get a definitive answer about this.
    Kind Regards,

    Hello, Raheel -
    Support for bi-directional text is under very heavy consideration for a future release of the Flash Player. We are still identifying timing and development plans, but we fully understand how important this is to so many people. Unfortunately we are not at liberty to disclose any of our current plans at the moment, but as soon as we can, we will make this information available to the public.

    Dear Mike,
    Thank you for your response, I am glad that at least there has been some forum where users could get direct answers from the product team.
    One thing I would like to add to the above is that the ability of coding in actionscript with right to left languages is also something that has featured on many discussion threads. I would hope that if you do decide to adopt full support of right to left languages, you really do go all the way including actionscript.
    I would also be willing to use our team to assist in any testing in this area (if this is something Adobe would be willing to do) as we already have projects waiting – all we lack is the availability of technology.
    Kind Regards,
    Raheel Hannan (MadinahArabic.com)

    I am attempting to migrate a large program from action script 2 – 3. I have managed to get full
    functionality in attaching movie clips(add child)by setting the document class(Publish settings) to a Packaged class name space. The instantiated objects attach well. Subsequent levels not so well.This would be fine in a Morpho state change model if additional Document class’s could be described.I enjoy designing variable depth state machine models and would look forward to a Poly Morpho Class model. I hope the release version implements at least this functionality.
