Camera Raw 7.2 Release Candidate now available on Adobe Labs

Camera Raw 7.2 and DNG Convertor 7.2 Release Candidates are now available on Adobe Labs  This release includes bug fixes, new camera support, and new lens profiles.  Camera Raw 7.2 Release Candidate includes tools to recover image sensor data typically lost when shooting in a camera crop mode (e.g., 3:2, 16:9, 1:1).  Photographer can view the entire recorded image and are not limited to just the crop mode selected in camera*.  This functionality is available to the newly supported cameras in both Lightroom 4.2 RC and Camera Raw 7.2 RC.

* – note that this feature does not work in Nikon or Panasonic cameras as cameras from these vendors crop the raw data to the chosen aspect ratio.

Camera Raw 7.2 Release Candidate Notes

These items have been FIXED in Camera Raw 7.2 Release Candidate:

  • Cannot change “Erase” size, feather and flow settings while utilizing the Option key.
  • Cannot write metadata to images previously opened in some 3rd party software.
  • Luminance Noise slider is unresponsive when Clarity is greater than 0.
  • In certain cases, the new Defringe controls can cause vertical streaks to appear.
  • Some images from Canon 5D Mark II exhibited pattern noise in the form of maze/green split artifacts.
  • Adjusting the Blue channel does not affect monochrome images.
  • Certain TIFF files can cause Bridge to become unstable.
  • Defringe settings are not retained when editing the file in Photoshop as a Smart Object and then returning to ACR.

Known Issues in Camera Raw 7.2 Release Candidate:

  • A high number of artifacts exist in ACR text fields in the Panel.  This occurs only in OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
  • The File-Quit menu item is greyed out in DNG Converter.  Please use keyboard shortcut Command+Q to exit out of DNG Converter.  This occurs only on the Mac platform.

Thank You

The CR 7.2 does not work as the adobe application patch application does not work post downloading, it states that the program appears to be damaged

  2. Al says:

Any plans to have Canon 5D MkIII tethered capture supported for 4.2-final ?

  3. Chuck W. says:

Why did you NOT include for the 5D Mark III the tools to recover image sensor data “lost” when shooting raw in crop mode or movie mode (e.g., 16:9, 1:1, 4:3)? Is the 5D Mark III not as important as the T4i or unreleased EOS M?

As it stands, the only way to recover the “lost” pixels is with Canon’s DPP or the old and unsupported DNG Recover Edges utility. Adobe, this is a giant pain in the rear. Please give 5D Mark III users the same level of support as the T4i and EOS M.

  4. Roger N says:

It seems from others having tested the OM-D E-M5 4:3 camera that when shooting in crop mode, such as 3:2 image ration, that “as shot” 4:3 full RAW data cannot be accessed as promised by this Release Candidate (the option does not show up). Could you please look into this limitation, surely it must be unintentional?

This has been a very painful update, and if I could get rid of you guys, I would.

  7. Bob Ralston says:

where is the Canon G1X? It has been out for a year and still no support.

  8. I have trouble tethering my Canon EOS 650D too… it Tethers to Aperture but not to Lightroom… is this a bug or is it not supported?

  9. Norbert75 says:

And what about the Fuji Xpro-1 and his lenses, please ? May we expect lens profiles anda better support for the raw files ?

  10. Philip Hodgkins says:

So where the heck is Camera Raw 7.2? Supposedly released with LR 4.2, but nowhere on the Adobe download site does it exist!

  11. Nathan Black says:

Where do I find the tools to recover image sensor data typically lost when shooting in a camera crop mode (e.g., 3:2, 16:9, 1:1) in Camera RAW 7.2?
    I use 5D markiii

Trying and failing to find a way to download Camera Raw 7.2 Release Candidate for using a Sonly DSC-RX100 with Photoshop Elements 10.

  14. Kerry McPhee says:

I am new in Photography and just got a D5100 Nikon. I see NO references to it above! Wuzzup?

  15. Lee Christiansen says:

LR 4.3 tethering still fails with Canon 5D3 if the camera is powered of and then on, or connection is lost momentarily. Have trashed .plist file in preferences but still no joy.

Cannot get any response from Adobe…! I thought this was fixed according to Adobe notes so it is quite frustrating.

    Any suggestions?

  16. Alex says:

How about Lightroom 4 support tethered shooting for the Olympus OM-D E-M5!

  17. John Moore says:

Lightroom is an excellent product and an important part of my workflow. I recently purchased a Fuji X-E1 to replace my Canon 5D Markll and am very dissapointed at the raw processing of these files. Fuiji is pointing the finger at Adobe and Adobe seem to be pointing the finger at Fuji. Classic case of two parties not working together with the user caught in the middle. Yes, the sensor is different but surely the brilliant engineers at Adobe/Fuji can fix this if they want to. I don’t know what is really going on here but I’m very dissapointed that this is not resolved. I have seen beta comparisons using Capture One vs Lightroom and the difference is astounding. I’m going to try the Capture One 60 day free trial and may switch although I’d pefer not to have a new workflow.

Adobe, please get working with Fuji and fix this or you will lose loyal users like myself.

How about support for the Sony RX100 lens ?
