Camera Raw 8.1 Release Candidate for Photoshop CS6 Now Available

Camera Raw 8.1 and DNG Converter 8.1 Release Candidates are now available on Adobe Labs  This release includes support for HiDPI capable displays, bug fixes, new camera support, and new lens profiles.

Photoshop CS6 customers traditionally have received camera updates through Camera Raw 7.x releases.  This is the first time that we are providing camera support through a version of the camera raw plug-in that is a whole version number greater than the version of Camera Raw that shipped with a specific version of Photoshop. (Photoshop CS6 shipped with ACR7 and now we’re providing support to CS6 with ACR8.)  As mentioned here, this change allows us to be consistent with our past policy of providing raw support for currently shipping products.  However, when ACR8 is hosted by Photoshop CS6, it will not offer any of the new features described in Photoshop CC marketing materials for ACR8.

LR 4.4 user, can’t find (current existence of) or promise of support for Nikon 1 Nikkor 6.7-13mm – can you advise?

  2. I just joined Creative Cloud on the (mistaken) assumption that I would be able to pick up new PS CS6 features (apparently I have to Deregister in order to get any new features unless/until Photoshop CC is released in June.

Not great, but I also thought from reading the 8.1 beta materials that I should be able to install ACR 8.1 so I downloaded it, unzipped it into a folder and then ran the executable: “AdobePatchInstaller.exe” in the directory where all the files were unpacked. This resulted in the following:

Thinking that the instructions say “run and follow directions” I also tried downloading and runing the single exe executable and got the same result.

    I’m using Window 7, 64-bit. Ideas?

  3. Well, it looks like my attempt to embed the error message pop up image failed… the message says:

    Update Failed.
    Updates could not be applied
Adobe Application Manager may be damaged. Download and install a new copy of Adobe Application Manager.
