LiveCycle PDF Generator – Verifying OpenOffice in Solaris

On Unix operating systems (Linux, Solaris), LiveCycle PDF Generator uses OpenOffice.org to convert Microsoft Office native documents to PDF. IBM’s AIX is an exception because there is no supported OpenOffice version available for it.

On Solaris, you can ensure that OpenOffice.org is installed with the following command:
pkginfo | grep ooo

If it is installed, you should get output similar to this:

application ooobasis32-base Base module for OpenOffice.org 3.2
application ooobasis32-binfilter Legacy filters (e.g. StarOffice 5.2) for OpenOffice.org 3.2

To avoid conflicts, remove Sun’s StarOffice if it is also installed. You can check for any installed StarOffice versions by using this command:
pkginfo | grep SUNWstar

If StarOffice (now called “Oracle Open Office”) is installed, you can remove it by removing those packages with commands such as this (multiple packages can be removed using single command):
pkgrm ooobasis32-base ooobasis32-binfilter ooobasis32-calc
