Access Denied while activating ‘Adobe LiveCycle Connector’ feature on SharePoint 2010

0

- Pankaj Gakhar,  Software Engineer @ Adobe

After installing Adobe LiveCycle Connector Web Part on SharePoint 2010, you may encounter an error Access Denied while activating Adobe LiveCycle Connector feature on a SharePoint Site Collection. This issue occurs due to a new security feature implemented in SharePoint 2010. You can refer Microsoft KB 2564009 for details.

You can check SharePoint logs for details of the exception. The logs would look similar to:

w3wp.exe (0x0F48) 0x190C    SharePoint Foundation Feature Infrastructure  88jm    High     Feature receiver assembly ‘AdobeLiveCycleConnector, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=6720cbcc342f4ca4′, class ‘LiveCycleInterop.LiveCycleFeatureReceiver’, method ‘FeatureActivated’ for feature ’33a7c6b5-4e62-44aa-bf99-62d283de683a’ threw an exception: System.Security.SecurityException: Access denied.     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebService.set_RemoteAdministratorAccessDenied(Boolean value)     at LiveCycleInterop.LiveCycleFeatureReceiver.addToWebConfig(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)     at LiveCycleInterop.LiveCycleFeatureReceiver.FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFeature.DoActivationCallout(Boolean fActivate, Boolean fForce)  The Zone of the assembly that failed was:  MyComputer    fda8f095-7baa-47e4-b400-740259ad8ff5

Ameeth Palla, Technical Account Manager @ Adobe

I had recently worked on an issue where the process had an ‘Assign Mutiple Tasks’ step in it. It was assigning the same task to many users (>110). During runtime, when this step was executed, it would fail with the below error message and stack trace:

Tried to assign more tasks [xxx] than the maximum tasks per transaction threshold [110].

Enter special characters in Correspondence Management asset names

- Samartha Vashishtha, Content and Community Lead @ Adobe

Sometimes, you may want to create Correspondence Management solution assets that contain special characters in their names. To do so, you must first define the list of special characters that you want to use in the tbxeditor-config XML file.

Rights Management – How to Get Windows 7 to Trust a Self-Signed Server Certificate

- Jayan Kandathil, Sr. Enterprise Solutions Specialist @ Adobe

During the proof-of-concept, development, and testing phases of a LiveCycle Rights Management project, HTTP over SSL is usually configured with self-signed server certificates.  For instructions on configuring your appserver with such a certificate, see this and this.

When you try to connect via SSL to the appserver hosting LiveCycle from a Windows client, this will trigger an untrusted certificate warning from Internet Explorer...

Testing LiveCycle Workspace

0

- Ameeth Palla, Technical Account Manager, Adobe

A topic that has come up several times in the recent past is about testing Adobe LiveCycle Workspace. I thought it will be useful to provide some information around this for the benefit of a larger LC community.

If the objective is Load testing, in-house Adobe uses a commercial tool call Silk Performer which can capture and replay the AMF3 interactions between Workspace and the server for scalable load generation. There are other tools that work with AMF3.Some people have asked if QTP can be used for load testing – It is unlikely that QTP is a good fit, since it is not suited to scalable load generation.

Adobe recommends using Silk Performer or Neotys Neload for load testing of Workspace. Check out the links below that may provide more insight into this topic:

http://my.adobe.acrobat.com/p59756637/
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex-load-testing.html

If the objective is Functional testing then Workspace is configured for QTP testing out of the box.  If you install QTP, restart your computer, then install the Flex plug-in for QTP, restart your computer then you can start automating your Workspace tests.  However for QTP automation you should use the Workspace automation URL rather than the default URL.  So rather than http://server:port/Workspace/Main.html you would use http://server:port/Workspace/Main-auto.html.

Future of Flex – Whitepaper from Adobe

Moderator’s note: Although this blog post is not specific to LiveCycle, the Adobe enterprise community will likely find it useful. We’re taking the liberty of sharing it (with due thanks to Holly Schinsky).

There have been a lot of questions about the viability and future of Flex recently, and Adobe has published an official whitepaper today detailing their support for Flex going forward. The paper also contains details regarding Flash runtime support, Flash Builder support and other Apache contributions including the Falcon compiler. I believe the paper is a must read and can be found HERE.

LiveCycle Output ES2: “Failure to automatically determine column ’5′ width”

Issue

If you are using LiveCycle Output to generate PDF documents using XDP files as input, you may encounter the following exception and no PDF will be returned:

0000012a XMLFormAgentW E com.adobe.livecycle.formsservice.logging.FormsLogger logMessage
ALC-OUT-002-017: mid, tid: 29435,23593162.1 sev: f text: Failure to automatically determine column '8' width.

ALC-OUT-002-013: XMLFormFactory, PAexecute failure: "(com.adobe.document.xmlform.ReturnStatus@39133913)

If you load the same XDP file in Designer ES2 and goto PDF Preview, you may notice the same message as a warning in the log, but the PDF will be correctly rendered and displayed:
