Reader 7.0.7 released today

Adobe Reader 7.0.7 was released today. It is a great update which includes support for Acrobat 3D (released January 23) as well as a fix for a very ugly bug around Flash & Reader.

Users who upgraded to Flash 8 found a nasty problem with Adobe Reader 7.0.5 – their embedded or referenced SWF objects no longer played. You would see a “Buffering…” message in the browser. Good news: this problem has been resolved with Adobe Reader 7.0.7… so, go ahead, and download the update today.

There was a comment that the download includes Adobe Yahoo! Toolbar & Adobe Photoshop Starter without options to select the download. This isn’t exactly true. If you select “Choose a different version” (see screen shot) you will get options (see screen shot) and once I select “Choose a different version” every time I return to the Reader download page I now am presented with options (see screen shot)

Hey! You might want to warn your readers that the above link includes a full version of Acrobat Reader along with Photoshop Album and Yahoo Toolbar. These are not optional installs! Boo Adobe!

I agree. Could be confusing. If you look at the original post and select “More” you’ll see screen shots of how to avoid by selecting “Choose a different version”:

Adobe must have had a few complaints when they were hiding Yahoo Toolbar and extras in the Reader download – If you look at the Reader download page now, there are checkboxes for the extras.

Nice change Adobe – but it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

I need to deploy the new version in a corporate environment. I normally use “InstallShield Tuner 7.0 for Adobe Acrobat” to configure the application. However I need the .itw file to do this and I can’t find this with the new version can you point me in the right direction?

    Lori,

We’ve updated all the PDFs on the Kaon web site to be compatible with 7.0.7. In particular, we’ve implemented a user-friendly mouse navigation scheme, to counteract the change to an engineering-oriented scheme used in the new version of Reader.

Also there’s a new PDF on the main page (at the bottom) which demonstrates our new flexible-wire capability, and some really nice shiny materials. You should take a look!

    Rob,
Here’s the instructions from our Product Team:

    1) Download Reader 7.0.7 from Adobe.com.
    2) Run the EXE so that the Reader installer will uncompress itself to: [install folder]\Setup Files\RdrBig707\ENU
    3) Copy that temp folder ENU (above) to another location. Inside ENU is the ITW. Use Tuner 7 with this copied folder.

These instructions are also in Section 5.1 of Tuner documentation.
