[Labs] Flash Professional 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview now available

As3Preview Labs-1

If you haven't already heard, for the first time in the history of Flash, we have released an alpha build of the next release of Flash on Adobe Labs. Our goal with this labs release called, "Flash Professional 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview" (AS3 Preview for short) is to provide Flash developers with very early access to ActionScript 3.0, released recently with the new Flash Player 9. This preview of the next release includes only planned new features that are related to ActionScript 3.0. Other features planned for our next release are not included.

Adobe Flash Professional 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview provides registered users of Flash Professional 8 with early access to the new ActionScript 3.0 language and the ability to publish to the newly-released Flash Player 9. ActionScript 3.0 and the new ActionScript Virtual Machine introduced with Flash Player 9 are among the most signficant advances in the history of Flash. These new advancements, made in Flash Player 9, provide a more robust programming model, achieve standards compliance, and deliver ground-breaking performance improvements...

Be sure to read the FAQ and the RELEASE NOTES. Also check out the Flash Professional 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview Discussion Forums.

Mike this isn't on topic, but relevant since the new Flash Player and AS3 is out.

I am disappointed! Again no improvements in audio/sound. I have been a devoted Flash man since 1998, but have recently been looking as Max/MSP with Jitter.

More sound channels was great, but 3D sound or positional sound is what Flash needs. If you can do this you can probably steal away many Max/MSP Jitter users instead of losing Flash users to them.

Sound! Sound! Sound!

Thx

Why Flash need 3D sound or positional sound? I think Flash player 9 was more a actionscript upgrade release (what was something I miss in Flash player 8 and its realy 3 times faster now good job, but now go promote the player so we can use this in real life projects.

Hello -

I agree that it would be great to introduce some new capabilities for manipulating sound in the Flash Player. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to do this in a future release. As far as the Flash Player 9, it was entirely focused on ActionScript 3.0, the new AVM, and performance. This is why we chose to release it with Flex 2.

Flash Player 10 will likely focus on new breakthrough capabilities in expressiveness such as audio, video, text, and graphics - much like Flash Player 8 did.

The Flash Player now services a full platform of tools, servers, and solutions, so every Player release won't cater specifically to the Flash authoring tool.

Thanks,
MD

Currently, I am going to develop a flash game, so I really want to implemente 3D sound effect to the game, but I can not do that. I also have another idea which is to transfer stream audio from flash to external DLL or sourd card driver, but so far I can not find the solution. So, anyone have good ideas about this, very appreciate.
