"Flash is trash" Or at least that's what Jackie Irvine, Senior Vice-President, Direct Banking, BMO Bank of Montreal said. Then she added: "There is a movement afoot online towards simplicity and back to basics. The dotcom, flashy site is out and the simple 'get-it-done' attitude is in". Bank of Montreal is one of the largest financial services providers in North America. What's your take on it?

Flash can be used to provide simple, yet rich experiences. Macromedia providing a set of usability guidelines and a set of best practices is a step towards making RIA's usable. "Flash is trash" statement is like saying "Plastic is trash"

Ass backwards as it seems, I got into Flash because of simplicity. In my first days working with the web I thought it was crazy to have a page downloading 50 to a 100 little elements like spacer gifs and slices, when a SWF file can do it quicker and smaller in one file. I think its very true that average clients want more usablitiy/functionality and fewer jiggly flashing fading things. Flash is ideal for presenting simple interfaces ni the right hands.

It appears that BMO could be confusing "Flash" the technology with the dictionary defintion of "Flash" (" To display ostentatiously; flaunt. ") If you go on to read the press release, the BMO has many insightful points on what banks are looking for when it comes to building navigation and site architecture. Flash the technology would be perfect for many of their desirable banking experiences. "Other enhancements include: Well placed secure customer service request forms such as mortgage, loan and credit card applications, at appropriate locations throughout the site Integration of investment information on the site Flashing 'customer service response waiting' icon (<--- too funny) Easier and faster ability to link accounts to customer bank card" BMO News Release: http://www2.bmo.com/news/article/0,1257,contentCode-3486_divId-4_langId-1_navCode-112,00.html

    >heres a chat app that comes in at around 20k. http://dev.entropeelab.net/chat hi chris, do you have instructions for this? none of the command line commands i was trying to run would work. Also, i couldnt find the video pods in the app. How to i broadcast audio and or video? I tried to click on user's names for a context menu, but it wasn't working for me. Also, I couldn't find the preferences section. I wanted to set up notifications when there were new messages. maybe I was just overlooking those features though? mike chambers mesh@macromedia.com

fmx2004 is impressive, AS2 is outstanding, but BUGs + some missing features in AS2 mikes things down. im just wondring a little flashmx2004 button now worth 20-30k, its better to create 2frame old style buttons. + MM is more talking about DATA intergration with flash, DATA consists of TimeFrame, and there's no good DATE Object is avaiable in flash. Date object in flash is NOT enhanced since introduced in Flash5. just take a look on other laguages MM is currently comparing AS2 with, how well Date obj they have, lots of built-in functions. DateDiff, Date format using MMM.DD.YYYY and lots of other cool features. but MM encorage to create 20-30k Date class which takes advantage of AS2 performance over native obj performance. there could be a flash player update with Enhanced Date Object
