RickI had problems with my install at home. It would get half through the install and then say something about being unable to load an XML file. I remedied the problem by turning off Norton Internet Security. It installed fine after I did that.

Jim ChengI've had some problems with installing Central after having had the beta version installed on my machine. The Central SWF would prompt me to install. Clicking on it, the updater would be downloaded, apparently to completion,, but Central will fail to update and say, "A download error occurred." The problem was fixed by uninstalling the beta version before trying again. Mike WinkI am unable to install Central for 2 days now. So I started "bugtracking", deactivated the firewall and antivirus engine - no reaction. Firebird shows the "Connecting..." message while IE brings the normal error message after some time. I'm sys-admin and have enough free space on my HDs. I will test some other maschines (Win 2000/98/ME/XP without SP1) today. All german systems with many different versions of IE and Flashplayer. Configuration: OS: Win XP Pro SP1 Language: English Browser 1: IE6 (6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633) Browser 2: Firebird (0.6.1) Player version: 7,0,14,0 CPU: AMD Athlon (C) 1400 Mhz RAM: 512Mb Firewall: yes (Symantec, Norton Security 2003) Install notification: no Beta-version: yes

Pavel SimekOperating System -- Windows XP Operating System Language -- Czech Browser -- MSIE 6 Flash Player Version -- WIN 7,0,14,0 CPU -- Pentium 4 / 2,66 GHz Amount of Ram -- 512 MB Are you behind a firewall -- No When you click install, do you see To install this application you must first install Central. Would you like to install it now? -- Yes Did you have the beta version installed before? -- Yes (installed but never run; same problem as with the final version) Instalation process has finished with no errors. The Central icon has appeared on my desktop and in the systray. But when clicked, nothing happens. My theory: Central doesn't support localized names of system directories such as "Application data".
-
I also tried to install Central several times now. Always get this error "A download error occurred...". I have admin rights, deactivated firewall and antivirus, have the newest flash client and enough RAM and HD space. Have you ever tested the installer on a german OS?

karmiTo spare you all juicy technical details: we are not able to install Central on Czech Windows of any kind and flavor here in Czech Republic. Pavel's suggestion is probably right. Can we expect some fix in near future? If you are on non latin-1 system (Polish, Baltic, etc) please post here. Karel

This is a real let down right now after being at MAX2003 and seeing what it can do. Very frustrated with the product!

MikeI installed Central at MAX without a hitch. When I returned to my office (corporate network with CheckPoint firewall) none of my co-workers could install Central. At least six of my co-workers have tried installing Central in the office. None of them succeeded. Five of them are running Windows XP and one of them is running Windows 2000. When using IE, they all get the "A Download Error Occurred. Try Download Again" message. When using Netscape or Mozilla, no error message is given; it just displays the "Connecting..." message indefinitly. I tried installing Central from a Windows 2000 Server that is not protected by our firewall and everything worked perfectly. Central installed in a snap when our firewall wasn't in the way. Two of my co-workers have managed to install Central on their home computers (one using Comcast, one using Sprint DSL). One of my co-workers installed Central on his laptop computer from home. Just like me, when he connects to our LAN, Central works fine and he IS ABLE TO INSTALL NEW CENTRAL APPLICATIONS. My own conclusion is that for some reason, the initial Central download is not making it's way past some/many corporate firewalls. I don't know why.

S PageHey folks, I've been troubleshooting this on Macromedia's end and I've found what may be a workaround in some cases on MSIE. If you have a problem accessing the XML file or see "Access is denied", In Internet Explorer Choose Tools > Internet Options from the menu Click on the Security Tab Click Internet Click the Custom Level button Under Miscellaneous make sure access data sources accross domains is enabled. This may not be the whole story, but it definitely avoids a problem that's occurring in MSIE when it accesses one machine in our cluster. Hope this helps, let us know.

Shouldn't this file be here for this Central installer: http://www.markme.com/mesh/product.xml ? Same goes for the Macromedia Central installer. Shouldn't the XML document be located at (the same directory of the page): http://www.macromedia.com/software/central/product.xml ?

Aaron LeeHi I have the same problem installing Central. I am using Win XP Home without any firewall. Still it doesn't work. Can someone from Macromedia please take a look? This is hurting the company's image. Boy, I wish this can be fixed soon!
-
dougI had a problem installing Central. I am behind a Linksys befw11s4 - a wireless acces point/router. After upgrading the firmware on the Linksys to 1.44.2z, I could install Central. I believe it has to do with UpNPsupport in the Linksys box and the Central download/install procedures use of this protocol. Make sure you install the latest firmware for your particular router.

After I check the Proxy Server checkbox and type-in the proxy server address under the IE's Tools > Internet Option > Connections > LAN Setting. Finally, the installation of Central installed successfully without error. I think your guy can try to do the same step if you are behind the company's Firewall. Cheer!

It worked for me! I was able to get it to install from work, but not from home (on mulitple machines of different OSes: 2000/XP Home/XP Pro). I just tried it again and it worked flawlessly. Cheers
-
SteveYes, Thank you! Installation works now :)
-
I found that why I can't install central before! When I was trying to install it before, it report "download error" and ask me to try again. Then I ask my network administrator to open the port 443(HTTPS), and all my computers can install central now :-)
-
Yes, Central installs securely using HTTPS (SSL encryption), same as secure web pages use. HTTPS runs on port 443, so if your firewall is blocking that port you won't be able to install Central (or do other secure transactions in your browser). The problem some people were having was caused by an issue with our HTTPS servers here -- we fixed this now so installs should be working fine.

With ZoneAlarm Pro 3 on the install didn't work, with it off the install worked fine. -gabriel
