Welcome Macromedia!

Well, today's the day that we can finally speak about "The Aquisition". And though some of you are on our case for not blogging about it yet, its not because we're apathetic to it. We weren't legally allowed to speak about the aquisition until it closed (on Saturday).

On a personal note, I'm really excited about it (most of my development history is web based) and can't wait to see what happens when you combine the technologies of the two companies. Lately I've been playing with ColdFusion and Flex, and am working on getting Flex Builder 2 onto our hosted trial server. That should be up in the next few weeks or so. As well, members of the Adobe Enterprise Developer Program, and developers with Macromedia, may want to check out this FAQ which answers some questions about the developer program and Macromedia software.

Glad that you are getting the chance to play with ColdFusion and Flex. We're going to have lots of fun in the not so distant future!

Mike, you'll find that the Macromedia developer community and bloggers are very welcoming, cooperative, and resourceful, especially the ColdFusion ones! :)

There's lots to discover. Welcome!

Being a big PHP fan, I'm anxious to be able to check out ColdFusion now and figure out what the major differences are between the two products.

I also can't wait to get more involved in the Flex, Cold Fusion communities and meet the people behind the blogs I've suddenly become much more interested in.

Thanks for welcoming me! This is going to be fun.

Mike

Good question. Ben Forta has written (at least) two articles that approach the question of how is ColdFusion different from 'free' solutions such as ASP or PHP.

Mike, welcome to the Macromediasphere! We need a new name now, if that was ever our name...
As a CF and PHP guy, I have to say that I'm a MUCH bigger fan of CF than PHP. Almost infinitely easier ot deal with, and arguably more powerful.

You'll find we're a friendly bunch - former Macromedians and developer community both.

Mike, comparison? Nah, there is none! ;-)

Oh ok, here's a short post on CF vs. PHP (very high-level, with lots of great comments arguing both sides).

MM community ROCKS! :)

You will like ColdFusion and Flex a lot.

Nice to see Macromedia under new management.

I have a question for which I've filed official reports numerous times with Macromedia, and now with Adobe support, but no response yet.

I wouldn't normally post this on a blog comment but NO ONE seems to have done anything about it...

There's a showstopper bug in all versions of the linux flash player where the audio and video go out of sync, rendering most flash content worthless under linux.

This bug has been around for years, and is the bane of the linux world. Maybe now that Adobe is in charge of it, they could fix it?

If there is anything you can do to push this issue in support, PLEASE GOD do it.

Thanks, sorry to bug you
-Dom
