Announcing the (unofficial) Adobe PHP SDK

Today I'm happy to announce that I've started a new project called the (unofficial) Adobe PHP SDK, which is intended to enable PHP developers to build solutions with Adobe RIA technologies quickly. The (unofficial) Adobe PHP SDK contains samples and libraries that show how to connect to a PHP backend system with either the Adobe Spry Framework (for Ajax applications) or Adobe Flex (for Flash based applications).

You can download the adobe_php_sdk.zip file immediately, extract it and explore the samples and demos immediately.

In true open source fashion, all the code in the project is currently available in various open source licenses, and the content for the HTML page is available under the Creative Commons license.

There is a project hosted at Google Code for the Adobe PHP SDK, and a mailing list at Google Groups as well. Developers are encouraged to participate in a number of ways:

  • Test out the samples in the project.
  • Develop cool new samples to include in the project.
  • Add cool features to samples already in the project.
  • Improve the look of samples already in the project.
  • Add links to great resources for PHP developers.
Thanks to all those who have already helped improve on the samples in the SDK.

Terrific news, Mike -- do you know if there something analogous for this for .NET developers?

Does the Adobe PHP SDK have a RemoteObject tag that can be used with the Cairngorm framework?
[No, currently the SDK is simply a .zip file with samples and libraries that are needed for PHP developers to see Flex and Spry in action. - Mike]

Good work Mike, PHP is a nice way to promote the power of Spry and Flex.

You can find a useful RemoteObjectAMF0 class to connect to PHP in Flex here -

Interesting... Any plans for a (Unofficial) Adobe Rails SDK?
[No plans just yet, but a few have asked for one. Could be a useful community project? - Mike]

Thanks Mike.....
for creating a Flex / PHP community. More about Flex / PHP messaging sorely needed.
Count me in as a contributor to the community.

Flex and php really should be used with each other more often, in fact, I'm trying to do it right now, though with some other code.

However, I keep getting an error 2070, saying something about sandbox security. I've googled this and still can't find anything useful. Any idea why this is happening?

Great work Mike! I am going to look this over. I didnt see any examples of populating a tree through amfphp? Is it possible to populate the tree component without xml?
[Yes, its possible and very easy to do. Binding the dataProvider to a tree element should be all you need. Check the help for Flex Builder if you need help with the tree component. - Mike]
