New Gumbo Specs posted to opensource.adobe.com site

Word on the street is that some new specs have been posted to the Gumbo page on the opensource.adobe.com site, http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Gumbo.

So head on over and check out the new specs for Skinning & SkinnableComponent, Range, TrackBase, Slider, Spinner, and NumericStepper.

Plus, in case you missed them, there are also specs for the following features:

You can also check out the Language Reference for the Flex Gumbo SDK at http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/gumbo/langref/.

If you haven't already checked out the latest Gumbo build, you can download the SDK from the opensource.adobe.com site at http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Download+Flex+4. For instructions on downloading and installing the Gumbo SDK in Flex Builder 3, check out "Using the beta Gumbo SDK in Flex Builder 3" on FlexExamples.com. I also have a few Gumbo examples posted at http://blog.flexexamples.com/tag/gumbo/ which hopefully help you get started.

Flash Player 10 Peer to Peer (P2P) FAQ

Justin Everett-Church (Sr. Product Manager for Adobe Flash Player), posted an excellent FAQ for Peer to Peer communication in the Flash Player 10 beta, "Peer to Peer (P2P) in Flash Player 10 beta".

Thirteen Simple Rules for Speeding Up Your Web Site

Somebody forwarded this to me today and I thought it was pretty cool.

Yahoo has a nice article on its performance section of the Yahoo! Developer Network site (http://developer.yahoo.com/performance/) where they list 13 rules for speeding up your web site's performance. Each of the rules is extremely well written and I have to admit, I learnt quite a bit.

1. Make Fewer HTTP Requests
2. Use a Content Delivery Network
3. Add an Expires Header
4. Gzip Components
5. Put CSS at the Top
6. Move Scripts to the Bottom

8. Make JavaScript and CSS External
9. Reduce DNS Lookups
10. Minify JavaScript
11. Avoid Redirects
12. Remove Duplicate Scripts
13. Configure ETags
