Adobe Cookbooks 2.0 site launched

I just saw over on the ADC (Adobe Developer Connection) blog that they’ve released an updated version of the Adobe Cookbooks online application (or if you’re looking for the Adobe Flex Cookbook specifically, check out http://cookbooks.adobe.com/flex).

Also, head over to the Developer Connection site and read Ed Sullivan’s exellent “Introducing Adobe Cookbooks 2.0″ article.

Update: Wow, there are quite a few more Cookbooks than I expected:

Spark Primitive Text Changes (Flex 4.0.0.9948)

There was a recent SVN checkin last night (revision 9948) that may impact a few Flex 4 apps/skins out there… For a bit more background on the issue/decision, see the Spark Text Primitives Decision page on the Adobe Flex Open Source site. But for now, here’s a quick quote:

To summarize the decisions we’ve made:

  1. Replace SimpleText with Label, a UIComponent version of the same component.
  2. Instead of extending GraphicElement, RichText will extend UIComponent (like Label will).
  3. All of the spark text components will move to spark.components.*, so there will be spark.components.Label, spark.components.RichText, and spark.components.RichEditableText.
  4. The base class for SimpleText and RichText, spark.primitives.supportClasses.TextGraphicElement, will now extend UIComponent (instead of GraphicElement) and be moved and renamed to spark.components.supportClasses.TextBase. All of our text skin parts will now be typed as TextBase instead of TextGraphicElement.
  5. For now, RichEditableText and RichText will co-exist. Performance numbers showed that it may be possible to collapse them, but we don’t have the time right now to do this. We will revisit this later on, time permitting.

You can download new builds of Flext 4 SDK from here.

Adobe releases Flash Player 10,0,32,18

You can now head on over to www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html and grab the latest debug version(s) of the Adobe Flash Player (currently 10,0,32,18). Or, as always, you can find the release versions of Flash Player from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/.

Flash Builder beta serial number extension site is now live

According to the Flex Team Blog, the Flash Builder 4 beta extension serial numbers are now available for all Flex Builder 3 customers through http://www.adobe.com/go/flashbuilderextension.

Nightly Flex 4 Language Reference ZIPs now available

For those “hardcore” Flex-thusiasts out there, this may very well make your day!
If you routinely download the latest Flex 4 Nightly SDK builds from http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Download+Flex+4, you’ll be pleased to know that you can now download the language reference for the very same build!

Oh no you didn’t!
OH YES, WE DID!!!1!

You can still browse the Flex 4 Language Reference at http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/gumbo/langref/, as well as the user docs at http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/gumbo/html/, but if you want to see the latest and greatest version of the language reference (with all the latest API changes — http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Rename+List, I’m looking at YOU!), head over to http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Download+Flex+4 and download the Language Reference ZIP.

Yay!
