The latest release of Google Chrome includes the Chrome PDF Viewer which won’t properly display some PDF files like Dynamic Forms and PDF Portfolios. While Google Chrome is not a supported browser, the Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.0 does actually work with Chrome on Windows. Unfortunately, there is no solution for the Mac at this time.
If you are running Windows and you want to display your PDF files in Chrome using the Adobe Reader, you can easily disable the native viewer. Just type “about:plugins” in address bar and then disable the Chrome PDF Viewer. You don’t even need to restart.

Thanks for the tip to disable the Chrome PDF reader.
The Adobe reader works much better than the Chrome PDF reader.
The Adobe reader seems to better support:
- Saving to a local file
- Viewing and navigating via the table of contents (if the document has a TOC).
MUCH better.
I disabled the Chrome PDF Viewer also, and in most sites the document will display and print correctly by defaulting to Adobe PDF Reader. But in at least one case (a bank) it does not default to Adobe and will not display correctly. However, if I use IE for this bank, it does default to the Adobe reader. I have communicated this problem to the bank, but I wondered if anyone has seen a similar problem?
I’m not sure what would cause that kind of issue unless the bank is serving up the PDF bytes through a script.
I disabled the native Google Chrome PDF native viewer. I am using Adobe Reader X and Windows 7. Certain PDF files cannot be viewed in Google Chrome. I receive a errors window and ? In Internet Explorer, all PDF links open correctly. Any solution to my problem.
Can you confirm if chrome 11 supports adobe acrobat plugin, with the default plugin my doc’s wont work
I haven’t tested Chrom 11 but my version of 12 is working fine with Acrobat and Reader X
.pdf files aren’t working in Chrome on new computer (installed Friday, 6/3/11). I disabled Chrome pdf reader, but it doesn’t seem to help…
Can you elaborate?
Ah, now the links in the PDF are working, but how do I provide a URL that will take a person directly to the corresponding section of the document?
The links in the PDF are generated by Word 2010 and are links to Object References.
Is there any way to provide a URL to the Object Reference inside the PDF?
At this point the only viewer that I am aware of that can take you to a specific named destination of a PDF file is Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
Is there any pdf viewer plugin for mac’s chrome which can read pdf files in webpages with adobe reader? (I know how to make it work on windows, I have two laptops)
I’m not aware of anything at this time.
i’ve been using Foxit pdf-reader, but find that using it as a default pdf-reader seems to make docs I rename and forward not readable by the recipient. How can I make Adobe reader my default pdf reader, instead?(Where do i go, on W7 to do that?)
You can generally right-click and select “Open With” to reset the default application.
