About PDF Portfolios
A PDF Portfolio contains multiple files assembled into an integrated PDF unit. The files in a PDF Portfolio can be in different formats and created in different applications. The original files retain their individual identities and file types but are assembled into one PDF Portfolio file. Users can open, read, edit, and format each component file independently of the other component files in the PDF Portfolio.
You can create a PDF Portfolio by using the File > Create PDF Portfolio command.
Adobe Acrobat 9.1 comes with 8 standard PDF Portfolio Layouts plus the Basic Grid in the Basic Layouts Category of the “Choose a Layout” tab. (see image to the right). Additional layouts can be installed into Acrobat in the form of .nav files (navigators) and will appear under a new category. To discover new categories, use the drop-down list which defaults to “Basic Layouts”.
If you’ve received a .nav file and want to install it so that you can create PDF Portfolios using the new layout, follow the instructions below.

Where are those same basic layouts for Adobe X? I loaded Adobe X and don’t have nearly the number 9 cam with on a standard install.
The Acrobat X Portfolio implementation is quite a bit different from Acrobat 9 and a whole lot more flexible. We’ve streamlined the number of layouts but expanded the options to customize them.
Joel,
It’s nice that Acrobat X has new PDF Portfolio options, but sadly the layout we like is in 9. No way to import the 9 layouts into X and have them work?
If not, we might just need to uninstall X and go back to 9.
Unfortunately, the layouts from 9 are not compatible with X but you might try http://blog.practicalpdf.com. There are some Acrobat 9 style layouts available there.
The company recently upgraded my computer and installed Adobe Acrobat X standard. With the new version it appears that I don’t have the option of creating a Portfolio as I did in Version 9. Do I now need to have X-pro to create new portfolios?
Yes – only Acrobat X Pro can create a PDF Portfolio.
Unfortunately I did not know that Acrobat x standard could not create PDF portfolio’s. Can I upgrade to Acrobat pro?Or do I have to buy a new package?
You can upgrade through the Adobe Store
