Me still has the same problems with flash + firefox + compiz fusion, flash doesn't accept any left mouse click events. Well, if i do a right click, move the mouse over the menu, and then quickly click the left mouse button, i have a good chance it works, but not always. a pitty, since besides that annoying bug, it appears to work as advertised. If you have some sort of workaround, pelase post it here or send me an email.

With Ubuntu 7.04, Firefox 2.0.0.4 and Compiz Fusion, left click events doesn't work.

Beside this, pretty good to see Linux side-by-side with Windows and Mac. Good work! ;)

Mike, great work! The H.264 support is highly appreciated. Unfortunately, the click bug is still there. Paulo's workaround works - right clicking to bring up the menu and then double clicking. This is on Gentoo Linux 2007.0 using Firefox 2.0.0.6 and I'm not running Compiz Fusion as Paulo.

It doesn't work here. I'm using nspluginwrapper to run it on x86_64. The player loads, and I get sound, however there is no UI component. Right-clicking where it should be doesn't present the standard flash menu. Rolling back to the official release version (and telling nspluginwrapper about the change) makes things start working again.

but i have to report a few things that don't work:

1) clicking with LMB still does not work (except in GTK context menu). BUT holding RMB or MMB down and clicking with LMB work like it should.
mouse wheel works.

2) german umlauts not shown on LANG=de_DE.utf8
Pango moans: "Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()"

3) with or without HW-accel videos at comedycentral.com/motherload/ are out of sync, as video is played back slowly or syncing around weird

As in the previous Linux beta, this doesn't work correctly with multiple screens. It full-screens on the correct monitor, but the image appears in the centre of the monitors with borders along the side (so if you have 2 monitors, for example, you only see half the image).

Also, it often crashes the browser when accessing the settings, or halts the browser when browsing away from pages containing flash (the latter also happens in the released plug-in).

Otherwise, good stuff, it's a lot faster than the released version :)

I am still getting the no click event problem. It seems that right-clicks go through fine, and I see the menu no problem, but left clicks don't work at all. I am using Firefox 2.0.0.6 and nspluginwrapper on x86_64.

Looks good to me. I can now use the right click menu and get into settings without crashing.

Full screen seems to be going ok with acceleration. Good stuff.

One thing I am curious about though is "Javascript menus are covered by SWF" progress. I'm using Firefox 3.0a7 which lists fixes for it but say plugin changes and needed to support it. I believe changes going into the beta plugin were in part to move towards supporting it as well but was waiting on browser support... However it's still not fixed for me despite changes on both sides. So what is the status now? I don't want to nag - I know it's a lot of work, I'm just curious as to where things are at and whats required to finish it off.

First off, thanks for the updates, even if you can't make the player OSS. However, is there any hope on seeing a 64-bit version of the player any time soon? I don't think you can buy a non-64-bit CPU from a major OEM any more. (Dell, HP, etc.) 64-bit is needing some love.

There is still no real bug tracker, right? (Something where I can track the status of my reported bugs.)

Why is the hardware acceleration only in fullscreen mode? I'd love to see flash being accelerated whenever possible.

I appreciate OpenGL/GLX acceleration in Linux. Works very well on my Geforce 6150 (driver 100.14.11) However when I compare the same video clip playback in flash plugin and mplayer or xine the difference in CPU use is very big. On Athlon64 3000+ for the same clip the results are (measured using top command):
mplayer (or xine) firefox plugin using X-Video output: 3-5%
flash plugin 9.0.(playback from disk): 50-55%
The difference is in flash code as xine, mplayer, flash are all firefox plugins and use same browser and same programming interface.

In bug report I will provide more details.

I find OpenGL/GLX acceleration as step in right direction. It is visually faster and more fluent than software rendering but will not win in performance/CPU usage as X-Video extension is better optimized and have video capabilities which OpenGL lacks. However with more powerful 3D GPUs development on the market the difference will go smaller.

Konqueror does not work with this version of flash plugin. However KDE developers are talking about making support for it.

Release notes mentioned this:
Opera and Netscape do not allow recursive calls using the ExternalInterface API into the Flash Player. This issue has been reported to Opera and Netscape. (184777)

But I doubt that this is the reason why nothing is working at all...

I'm singing the 64bit mantra until it happens...
Of course I can run a 32bit plugin in a 64bit system using nspluginwrapper, and we all know the 64bit version will appear sooner or later, but please update the status once in a while. The last time you _mentioned_ a 64bit effort was in October 21th 2006, and every subsequent comment asking for it was simply ignored.
3D Realms talk about Duke Nukem Forever more frequently than Adobe talks about the 64bit version of the Flash plugin...

Thank you, thank you thank you. I can't believe how smooth Flash is in Linux now, and the fact that it is (and now will) keep up with the Win/Mac world is awesome. Makes thin clients running Linux for my kids make all the more practical!

I've tried the last version of the plugin and I'm still experiencing the click bug with Compiz Fusion and Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20061201 Firefox/2.0.0.6 (Ubuntu-feisty).

In opera 9.23 neither :/ Only "the grey" I see.

Any chance of communicating these features to the users of Flash? Idiot MS fanbois like those at abc.com block Linux users, presumably because they don't know it will work. This type of thing hurts Flash, because it means Flash is not cross-platform.

No Hardware Acceleration for me :'( . Fullscreen videos lags, like 2 fps :s. Debian Etch, KDE, Firefox 2.0.0.6, nVIDIA 6200 (nvidia.com drivers installed).

Added to the masses of people who use linux on PPC systems.

It's time we get a PPC linux distro.

I've tested this beta under Ubuntu feisty but I got some problems:

- It doesn't work in konqueror (is this due to the new interface?)

- Youtube controls don't work at all, so I can't neither test the fullscreen

- The preferences can't be set (exactly like the youtube controls)

- The right-menu has some localized values with wrong char (chars like "àèéùì" shows as "?").

Tried it for a (short) while in Ubuntu 7.04 w/Firefox 2.0.0.6 (x86). It appears to be faster than the released stable version. However, it's killing browser stability, and Firefox hangs and crashes more frequently than with 9.0 r48.

Getting much better, but stability needs to improve. But hey, it's a beta, after all. Nice with all the new features, looking forward to a more stable release.

@Chester: Nor in opera 9.23. However opera is working on this, I think there should be some improvements in kestrel already (9.5 beta).

Same stuff, here. Click bug, and special characters show as "?". It would be really nice to have a bug tracking system here where we can post bugs.

This is a follow up to joe's comment on the click bug. I'm running 32-bit x86, Firefox 2.0.0.6 and Metacity 2.18.5. In my case, changing the focus_mode from sloppy to click (deselecting "Select windows when the mouse moves over them" in Window Preferences) fixes the problem. Regardless of the focus_mode shift-click works too.

Youtube controls don't work at all ----- ME TOO

- don't work : play,stop, rewinding, turning down, the volume, Etc.

The animation is working, but The mouse is ignoring(controls).

P.S I have the Firefox 2.0.0.6 browser.

I have installed this on RHEL 5, and Firefox 1.5.0.12, and video is way out of sync with audio. The audio is great, but all videos play slowly, and then start playing very quickly once the audio track is complete. I have an NVidia Geforce 6200 AGP (4x) card with 256MB of memory running the NVidia proprietary driver, version 100.14.11.

Why don't you make the Flash system use GStreamer or some other extensible backend to support Audio and Video output?

I didn't have any problems clicking before, but can't click a thing with the new beta. Also, please, fix that bug that causes the browser to lock up. I'm sick of having to kill firefox and restart it because of this problem with the flash player.

I also want to vote to kill that bug that locks up firefox when leaving a flash site. It's boo.

64-bit version please. nspluginwrapper does not appear to support the latest beta. Almost anything except a few ads and YouTube videos will partially load then nspluginwrapper will fail and the animation will fail and turn gray. nsplugin is not a good solution for newest version. Require 64-bit plugin.

Thanks for your continued support of the linux community. When can we expect to see an alpha or beta of AIR? It would seem whilst Flash is now on par with it's related releases, AIR doesn't even have a linux release.

There have been heaps of other companies who have promised a linux version upon full release, only to never deliver one. Please give us some hope of seeing AIR on Linux.

did anyone manage to get fullscreen working smoothly on a radeon card? I am using a radeon 9600 with ati's drivers. i've installed ati's official drivers just for fullscreen flash, and tested opengl with a game from fedora's repo, and it works. However, playing a youtube video in fullscreen makes the framerate drop to about 4fps, compared to smooth speeds in firefox. I notice no difference between using hardware aceleration and disabling it in settings. Anyone figured it out?

I tried it and found video to be worse than the previous release. YouTube works fine, but videos on ESPN and Comedy Central have the audio playing properly but the video is extremely slow. It also starts eating up all my CPU cycles. The click thing worked occasionally, but not consistently for me. Nevertheless, thanks for the continuing efforts. In the meantime, I switched back to the non-beta version.

Compared to 9.0r48 this is worse for me 40% -> 50% cpu use at youtube. Disabling hw-accel makes it even worse.

About the click-bug, at first it worked just like it should. Then I wiped .macromedia for this test, and got the click-bug.

I can confirm this as well. Also CNN video does not work at all.

Could we get debug versions of the next player update ? (Flex) developers find it hard to give the player the day-to-day testing it deserves without debug/exception support.

Click bug: yes. (KDE) where it used to work ok.
Now, all S263 (Sorenson H263) content is ok but many On2 encoded movies are just choppy and audio goes nuts. Only tested this thru FMS. Is 'rtmps' or 'rtmpt' working??? Never worked regardless of the version.
Fullscreen doesn't work (Xorg + Nvidia) (Quake 3 works like a charm FYI).

For example while watching a video on youtube (even after it played when these other youtube stuff shows up in the window) it is using between 55 and 62 % cpu for me :(

Is there a support forum? My problem is that after upgrading to the Beta, audio stopped working. When I moved back to the released version (9.0.48), audio was gone as well. I can't bring back audio playback (just silence).

I'm using nspluginwrapper to run it on my X86_64 system, FWIW.

I am using Fedora 7. I have the latest Flash version (via Yum), and Swiftfox 2.0.0.4. When I view a LiveLeak video, my browser crashes.

I don't know if this has been fixed or not, but I thought I'd mention it.

Click bug happens for me too, right-button workaround is patchy and makes interacive flash apps next to impossible to use.

Current production version of Flash player crashes firefox randomly when left for a while (listening to Pandora, for example) or when closing tab containing flash object.
