Photoshop & You: THANK YOU from our team
Some people say it’s like “coming home,” when you enter a place that feels like it was designed with you in mind, where you’re surrounded by people who welcome you in and everywhere you look you feel inspired. For the Photoshop team, this space was their vision finally realized. A place for anyone to come and hang out with product managers, artists, photographers and expert trainers, experiment and learn new tricks on the latest devices, or just to witness all that Photoshop has touched in our visual world. It was wonderful to have people of all ages and experience levels come and join us. Russell Brown’s EXTREME Imaging Lab allowed anyone to be a kid again, and there was no such thing as “it can’t be done” – even laser etching on a pop tart!
It’s hard to believe that we’ve already “popped-in” and out of San Francisco! Right now, Bert Monroy’s 25-foot digital art masterpiece is being transported to its next exhibit floor location, our walls are devoid of glowing flat screen monitors, Facebook fan submitted framed imagery and the swanky Blu Dot lounge furniture – down to the Photoshop pillows – are all packed up on a truck until we unveil our next potential location. So far, we’ve heard you want us to pop-up in Denver, DC, Dallas, NYC, Atlanta, Portland, Orlando, Honolulu or even as far as Tel Aviv, Lithuania, London or Nigeria! We’re excited to see so much enthusiasm around the “Photoshop & You” experience and hope we can use this space to meet more of you – here and around the world.
In just two weeks we had…
- Over 20,000 portrait photos taken
- Over 400 digital images on display
- 53 sold out classes
- 8 special evening events
- 4 San Francisco landmark photo walks
- 1 very busy EXTREME imaging lab
It was amazing to hear stories from our product team about people they’ve met along the way. One expert hosted a retouch photo appointment with a woman who was moved to tears when she saw an old black and white photo that was once torn, wrinkled and weather-beaten, brought back to its original form. Suddenly, she could see her relative walking the city streets as he had many decades ago.
The space – much like an art gallery – changed from day to night. There was an outdoor garden, with a wall blanketed in green ivy vines and a deck where many gathered to chat in the sun on unusually clear blue San Francisco days. And this past Saturday night, at our closing party, we shared some bubbly and cupcakes and shot some fun photos. The evening was complete with a make-up artist and a trunk full of wacky costumes.
Clearly, this home of ours didn’t materialize on its own. We have so many people to thank for helping us bring it to life and make it so rich, that everyone kept coming back for more.
Thank you to our creative agency MKTG for helping us realize the team’s vision and coordinating all the details to get us up and running with loads of style and class. We would also like to acknowledge the following partners for their generous contributions to the experience – whether it was printing thousands of images with high-quality Canon printers on canvas or slick photo paper, powering through photo fixes and edits with customers on our powerful, HP workstations, offering high-caliber seminar sessions with a stable of VIPs from Peach Pit press or putting Universal Laser etching technology to the test with rocks, dog tags and various dessert items…we couldn’t have done it without support from our ecosystem. The National Association of Photoshop Professionals helped us reach out to their large network of Photoshop users and Scott Kelby(President of NAPP) kicked off the weekend with sold out seminar sessions and live shooting. We appreciate ALL of our popular presenters who kept the theater standing room only and delivered a wealth of information that was truly invaluable to those who attended. BIG THANKS also go to AIGA, Alioscopy, Blu Dot, Blurb, Calumet, CES, Epson, Hasselblad, Leica, lynda.com, Propark, Wacom and Westcott for offering their services, equipment and time.
It certainly took a village to build “Photoshop & You” and as Winston Hendrickson – VP of Product Development for Digital Imaging – said in his welcome toast, this space was aptly named as a celebration of YOU, our devoted Photoshop fans who keep us inspired to develop more killer features and whom we sincerely appreciate meeting with in-person to hear all that you’re doing with your craft and our software. This was not just a store; it was an experience we created for YOU. Thanks for making it a great place to hang out and to San Francisco for welcoming us to the neighborhood.
Hope to “pop-up” soon in a city near you!
