Photoshop’s Not the Only Thing That Keeps Getting Better

_Life does too.

By now, many of you have probably been exposed to the “It Gets Better” grassroots video campaign that encourages troubled and perhaps suicidal gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender teens to persevere through their difficulties so that they can enjoy the better life that awaits beyond high school. If you haven’t, then I encourage you to check out www.itgetsbetter.org to see some of the heartfelt and moving videos from people who are living proof that life gets better after high school.

“What in the world does this have to do with Photoshop?” you might ask. Well, a group of Adobe employees have banded together to create their own “It Gets Better” video, linked below. In it, you’ll hear their touching recollections of the pain they felt as adolescents, as well as the happiness and fulfillment they’ve found as adults once they had the opportunity and strength to define the lives they wanted for themselves. It’s a terrific video, and I’m proud of all of them.

I can still remember the dawning realization in high school that I was gay, and the accompanying fear that it would doom me to being an outcast for the rest of my life. As a result, I shoved that part of myself aside for many years, but it wasn’t until I finally accepted it that life took a decided turn for the better. The life I’ve got today is so much better than I could have imagined back then, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’m not sure why it is that high school – and elementary school too, for that matter – seems to create some of the most crushing pressure of conformity that we’ll experience in our lives. As an adult, though, you’ve got the freedom to choose your own road. If you choose the one that stays true to who you are and what makes you special, you’ll inevitably find that it’s filled with people who will value the real you.

I’m glad that Adobe has been a part of that road for me.

Thanks for doing this Adobe. It’s always great to hear the success stories.

Man, I thought being a STRAIGHT artist/geek in high school was tough. But I think we can all agree that it’s great that we all end up getting to be professionals, while our past tormentors are all Microsoft Office jockeys at best now.

hey Trevor me wanna call you :v

Very cool guys,

Thanks Adobe for being so supportive. It took 31 years for me but it did get better.

Kevin, Cant thank you enough for the wonderful video, I got an email about it and was amazed that a big company would go out on a limb for questioning youth. I was one of them back in the 90′s even attempting suicide because of my orientation. Hope you can help the young ones get enough strength to keep going because it does get better.

Yes.. thank for Adobe, Since two years ago, photoshop make me easier with my work especially about making good photograph….
