Lightroom 4 Now Available!

The Lightroom team thanks you – all the photographers out there that downloaded Lightroom 4 Beta and provided us with comments and feedback. Lightroom 4 Beta was about validating the work that was done to leverage performance and image quality enhancements, like the ability to geotag photos and view them on a map, the new book module or entirely new features like enhanced video support. The community response was fantastic and we’ve made over 800 tweaks in response to your feedback.

Lightroom 4 is now feature complete and final. Starting today, Lightroom 4 is available for just US$149 for the full version and US$79 for the upgrade. In this video, Julieanne Kost Senior Digital Imaging Evangelist shares some of the new enhancements in Lightroom 4:

If you’ve had a chance to check out Lightroom 4 Beta, you probably have played with the enhanced Develop module and all of its powerful new tools, like:

  • Adjustment controls that maximize dynamic range from cameras, recover exceptional shadow details and highlights.
  • Improved auto adjustments to dynamically set values for exposure and contrast
  • Additional local adjustment controls including Noise Reduction, Moire and White Balance
  • Presets that take advantage of new processing technology for speedy results
  • Soft proofing that helps photographers tune images in a destination color space to ensure content looks its best.
  • Ability to email images directly from Lightroom using an email account of your choice

After editing and adjusting images, the next step is to find a way to showcase them.  A professionally bound book with high quality paper is a great way to highlight your photographic work. Lightroom 4 has built in tools to create them with text controls and a variety of easy-to-use templates, as well as a direct link for publishing your photo book with Blurb.

The intuitive Map module lets you pin photos to locations and easily import your geotagged photos. Seeing your photos on a Map can sometimes help you evoke memories of incredible vacations and favorite photo shoots.  At the very least, the new Map module will make organizing your photos more easy and fun.

Now, native video support allows you to play, trim and extract frames from video clips shot on DSLRs, point-and-shoot cameras and smartphones. Video-specific presets and many standard Lightroom image adjustment controls can be applied to video clips, and adjusted videos can be exported as a H.264 file or published directly to Facebook or Flickr.

Download Lightroom 4 today for Mac and Windows and tell us what you love about it. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ for more updates and information and watch videos about the new features on our YouTube channel.

We hope you enjoy Lightroom 4!

NOTE: We apologize for the issues some experienced this evening with downloading Lightroom 4. There was a technical glitch on Adobe.com, which has since been fixed and you can now download it here: http://adobe.ly/wro2xE. Thank you for your understanding.

TAGGED AS: , , , ,

Bought and downloading. I do have a question about this though, will the cost of this be applied to the upgrade when CS6 ships if I transfer my licenses to the Cloud release?

WHEN will Lightroom offer a truly professional solution that allows ONE catalog to be shared among more than one workstation??

when you put your ONE CATALOG on an external drive and move it from workstation to workstation… like i’ve been doing since LR2….

Is there a resource somewhere that explains how to merge my LR3 and LR4b catalogs into a new one in LR4? What happens to presets, etc?

First time upgrading an Adobe product.

Thanks.

The upgrade will take care of upgrading your catalog from LR3 to LR4, but I do not believe that the LR4B (Beta) catalog will be upgraded. I am not sure that you can merge that beta with the converted LR4 either. I may be wrong, but thought I read that somewhere.

$79 for the upgrade? Then why it tells me $99 when I add it to the cart, even though the store too says it’s $79?

Having the same price issue as Agata. $79 then $99 at checkout ??

What exactly is the link to buy the LR 4 update from LR 3. I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

Where is the LINK to UP grade from 3 to 4. I dont see it anywhere.

upgrade pricing from lr1 and lr2 is $99.00. should be $79.00 from LR3 but that option isn’t available yet. LR4 Trial Download actually downloads LR3. Adobe’s site developers apparently fell down on the job. Maybe tomorrow.

SDK ?

Wow, today is my lucky day! I was Googling to try to find out how much longer I’d have to wait for Lightroom 4, and to my surprise and delight, it came out TODAY! Yay! I have Lightroom 2 — will I be able to upgrade straight to 4?

I’ve purchased every version of Adobe Lightroom since 1.0 for my personal (home) use.
Yet Adobe still treats those outside the US as second class customers.

The links above take me to the ‘US Only’ store which does not provide any way to switch to the ‘correct’ Adobe store.

Adobe then want to charge me more(as per usual) – I’d be more than happy to pay in USD (my credit card, like most, does cross-currency transactions just fine). Instead Adobe wants to charge me more than USD$104 for the same product.

Adobe, when will you realise the Internet is global? Continuing with this region restriction rubbish is stupid, and ends up encouraging people to pirate your software.

I am with you, I have constantly found Adobe’s US vs International practices irritating but unfortunately it is very common amongst large US corporations. I am not looking forward to upgrading.

I bought the LR3 Education version within the last 3 month. I guess I am eligible for a free upgrade, don’t I?
Where do I find the description on how to do it?

Can you provide a reasoning as to why Lightroom 4 in Australia costs AU$241 while it’s only US$149 for the USA? Considering the Australian dollar is currently higher than the US dollar?

I just went to upgrade to Lightroom 4 and have become absolutely disgusted at the tactics of Adobe. They are wanting to charge us AU$122.38 (incl GST) whereas in the US it is $79.00 and considering the exchange rate this really comes under the heading of thievery. I download the software so what exactly does Adobe have to do? The upgrade is already on the internet so: no human involved, no handling fees, no postage etc – just take our money. I reiterate everything is done over the internet!!

This is not exactly the best PR exercise Adobe!!! You are indeed stealing. PSP is looking better and better.

Unfortunately its about supporting their overseas (Australian) dealer network pricing structure. Its not just Adobe but all Australians know all too well how we are constantly overcharged simply because we have a smaller population base.

Unfair. Buying over the net should free us of this but often doesn’t.

No x-pro1 raw support :-(

On the French store, the price of the downloaded product is more expensive than the shipped product!!

I agree with Will and Oscar. Why does Adobe charge more just because I live in Australia, especially considering the Aussie dollar.? I’d love to hear a valid reason for this!

Everything in AU costs more money. Might be due to tariffs or things of that nature, but Canon gear is the same way.

No way no tariffs and even no GST under $1000 so there’s no reason they charge more other than they can in the same way apple does!

once it’s downloaded can you delete previous versions? wondering about Photoshop also I have a previous version besides PS-5 …seems like I wasting lots of hard drive space…

Would be great to get some feedback from those who have already installed it!

Also I hope the PC version is a LOT more stable than the beta.

The Beta was ROCK SOLID on my Win 7/64 bit PC…

It is very unstable on mine — latest crash was a few minutes ago. Win7 w/ 6gb & quad processor. Runs slow as molasses. I’m sticking with 3 till they get it sorted out.

Of course the price drop is fantastic…

but, you need to tell people that the price of $149USD is not the local price.

If you live in Australia for example ( as I do ) the price is $205AUD, despite the currency being 1.07AUD to 1USD.

I would hesitate to guess that the digital file would even come from the same servers and would NOT have localised language even.

Once again Adobe fails on international pricing.

Let users who have an Australia location buy from the US store… I would have brought it tonight, now I am thinking I will evaluate other software because of your pricing models.

I completely agree, although the pricing is showing as $241 and not $205. Adobe you must listen. I will purchase Lightroom at USD149 or even AUD149 but I will not be purchasing it at the current insulting Australian price.

Complain to ACCC about their price gouging. Apple is being investigated by the ACCC for similar price gouging.

I’m onto the Australian Ombudsman tomorrow, I suggest all people pissed off at the Australian price contact that office. Worth the time, Adobe won’t change their practices unless we do.

No one suggest face recognition and visual search or pixel nagged in this new Lightroom 4?

The Aussie version is more expensive because they have to change “hello” into “G’day”, stuff like that. It’s highly complex.

hahah if only they actually did that it might be worth the extra at least we get something for our money!!?

I am very dissapointed that there’s no face recognition i LR4. I really can’t believe it…Googles Picasa have it, and I like it…and I use it….

Love the new aggressive pricing. Too bad Canon didn’t do something similar with the 5D III.

Very excited to have soft-proofing at last.

$149 US for the download using an US account… $205 AU for the download using an Australian account… and the surcharge is for what?!? It’s a digital copy, no shipping, no staff wages and the Australian currency is and has been higher than US for the last year or more. So what exactly is the reason for this BS pricing policy?

Most US based software companies frustratingly seem to be trapped in a a USA mindset… there is a worldwide market after all… Maybe 22 million people is just too small for them to think about but that should mean at least charge us the same as USA whats the difference?

I live in the USA and was unaware of the higher cost for those international buyers. I would feel the same way if the situation were reversed. C’mon Adobe, charge one price for everyone.

With regard to the Australian pricing it’s also worth noting that though we pay much more we are not offered anything like the same level of after sales support – even where mandated by Australian law.
I’m mentioning this as US companies often cite non-existing support costs as the reason for the price differential. It’s not that, it’s just using out-dated pricing models and showing no flexibility.
And insulting their customers.

This is very disappointing to see as an Australian customer. Here’s the facts:

1. Upgrade from LR3 to LR4 = USD$79

2. US$79 is worth AUD$75 as at 2012-03-07

3. And yet LR4 is listed at $AUD98

4. Which resolves to USD$103 for an advertised USD$79 upgrade.

Is this fraudulent? Some might argue so, as every press release hitting out inbox, feeds, readers and portable devices advertises the good news of a $79 upgrade. I would suggest that this is more a case of a significant and consistent failure by many business units at Adobe to solve what is a growing problem. And that’s simply this – Adobe is making it harder for loyal Australian customers to justify giving them their money.

The upgrade looks great, but I refuse to pay an extra USD$20+ for something that should actually be cheaper in my country. After all, we’re talking about a digital download, so the regional supply chain economics lectures don’t apply. And, let’s be honest, who gives a **** about the regional ramifications to the corporate structure. This is the internet. You’re fighting piracy, and this isn’t helping.

Clock is ticking to fix this.

Was trying to buy, however saw Adobe thinks its fair to charge me more cause I live in Australia……. well I wont feel any guilt using pirate bay to acquire my copy. Will be sure to pass on to my friends too.
thanks Adobe

Very good presentation. Lightroom 4 looks great, I am a hobbyist, and I might take the plunge!

If I have lightroom 2, can I upgrade to Lightroom 4 for $79?

Pirate Bay is looking attractive. Not a fan of paying more in Australia for the privelige of downloading from a US server. I’ll stick with 3 for the time being.

Not cool Adobe.

I was so looking forward to giving Adobe my money. Then I realised that they were going to charge me a higher price to download Lightroom 4 just because I did not live in America. I’m sorry Adobe, you’re not going to get my money unless you charge the same price.

Very unhappy with the price differential between the Australian price and the US price. There is no valid reason why this should exist, and it only drives people to pirate your software.

On one hand, kudos on the price drop. The Beta was great, I’m looking forward to moving to the full version.

On the other hand, Adobe, what’s with the price gouging? Just because I live in Australia doesn’t mean I care less than anyone else about my hard earned cash.

I too am annoyed at the pricing for Aussie users. I’ve checked other countries besides Australia and the US and not one came close to the price we pay down under. I compared the downloadable full version from various countries and found that we are being charged between $20 – $50 more for the same digital version. Come on adobe, stop ripping us off.

Hey Adobe,

As Bender would say “You can bite my shiny metal arse” if you think I’m going to pay more for LR4 from the Australian site than the American one. Its xenophobic companies like you, who constantly price discriminate against anyone not in the US that keeps software piracy alive.

Fix it, and fix it now!

Hey Adobe,

shame, shame, shame! Australian price for the upgrade to LR4 is a clear discrimination case! very dissapointed!

You know this software was $299 last time around right? Your getting an even better version for less than half and your crying because it’s $20 more in Australia? I mean get real and be happy it’s not the old price. As it is it’s a bargain no matter if it’s $110 for Australia or $79 for the USA.

Pulling out a fact of the past to argue the present doesn’t work in technology.

Seriously? If you are from the states we are paying $46 more than you when you take into account the exchange rate. That’s around 32% more. You reckon that’s fair?
Heck, if you want to think that way, then would you be happy if adobe up’d all prices to match what the Aussies are paying?

I’ve bought Lightroom since LR2 and upgraded every time despite the stupid Australian policy becayse I’ve really wanted to support Adobe.

Unfortunately Adobe’s absurd policy has continued and now after paying only $123.75 last upgrade the new discounted price will cost me AU$122.38! (not sure why people are saying $104) The price should be $74.83 yet for my extra $50 I still get stupid “US English” and crappy support to boot.

This time around I can no longer support Adobe and would prefer that they go broke. I’ll hang onto my cash and if I find I can’t live with Lightroom 3 then I’ll simply pirate like everyone else does until Adobe fix their stupid policy.

Yes, the overcharging of Australian customers sucks! If we are downloading the software are we getting anything different to people in the states????? Such a ridiculous situation. Adobe please get your act together or at least try to give some legitimate reasoning for this blatant act of price discrimination!

Completely agree with the guys complaining about the discriminating way Adobe treats its customers! For years I’m a USA customer buying stuff like Adobe Master Collection, Lightroom etc and now that I’m in the United Arab Emirates these guys make it not only a nightmare to upgrade but on top of it want to charge a premium.
Talking to their service hotline or chat you get a phone number in Dubai. Hello, why do you think I’m online trying to download the upgrade? Because I’m fedup dealing with counter staff in shops or offices like the Adobe one in Dubai making a simple task a workout.

Apple had the same issue for years over charging customers in the UAE, by now their online shop is updated and no need for headache. Adobe’s limping behind. Since this is a repeating issue I’m shopping for alternative software solutions even if not so advanced because I’m sick and tired of companies like this…. truly Global.

So many people cheat by downloading online. We are genuine people who wait in a queue to purchase and in return we get these policies and discriminations thrown at our face. I live in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) however this country does not appear in your list of Middle East countries.
So whats my solution? Do i end up downloading online or do you have some provisions made for us where we can buy with dignity? Also noticed that the prices go up via buffers of tax, etc.. I mean if it is an electronic download, no shipping, no crossing borders, etc why beef it up with taxes and additonal burden. Lastly, Apperture has inproved vastly compared to its initial release and if Adobe does not solve my issue soon, I am for sure quitting LR.

Another Aussie here. Why oh why do the Adobe marketing people spoil the great work of the software engineers.

I am sorry, but the inequity in pricing will lead me to move to Aperture.

i used to promote Lightroom on forums – not any more!

ummm under 200 bucks seems like a pretty good deal to me for the new version, everything is more expensive in Oz. Since there is no GST on electronic download price, then it’s less to pay anyway. Don’t buy a box and mess around with shipping. Unless I am mistaken, when you buy in US there is sales tax of 10%..so add 15 bucks to 149. In Oz it’s still under 200 if choose electronic download option…do the math..works for me

Great work Adobe. The beta was great but unless you can bring some equity to your Australian customers, I for one won’t be in any hurry to upgrade. I’ve paid more than the rest of the planet to buy your products and to upgrade LR at each version. I fail to see your justification for charging us 30% more for the same product.
And i thought the USA was one of our allies!

Dear All!

Despite Lr4 is already available worldwide, it is still not available in Russian Adobe Store at all.
Like anybody else outside US borders I’m not able to purchase it.
And the prices in russian store are even more than in Euro-based Stores…
Now the price of Lr3 in russian store is around 300 Euro (approx $450)!!!!

It’s so pity while someone’s money are always less money than another’s one…

Adobe, just try to think different! Nay be you could yearn a lot more than now?

Its not all about paying the $20 extra, its about us getting shafted on RRP’s all the time, Uk pound is a stronger so they get to buy it at 104 pound to compensate for this, which makes it roughly the same as the US RRP. Aussie dollar is stronger so we pay more! Just because our economy isnt as rooted as other countries doesn’t mean Aussies are well off. So don’t try to profit from us!

Was trying to buy it but am over it
AU store is not only dearer it doesn’t allow payment by paypal
seems they dont want AU customers.

fine, i’ll ablige, as of now.

Another annoyed Aussie user! Was excited to read that v4 was out and I could upgrade for US$79 – VERY disappointing to come to the Adobe website to find out this is not the case for Australians. Like everyone else, I can not think of any plausible reason for this when we are getting the exact same software from the exact same place?!? Would like to hear an explanation from Adobe? They should should just be happy for the bit extra from the strong AU$ exchange rate if you ask me?!?

I love Lightroom and am always happy to pay good money for a good product.

I woud happily pay $US149. But there’s no way I’m going to pay A$240.

So instead I will acquire Lightroom 4 by “other channels” and Adoble will get $0.

Adobe, you are stupid greedy mongrels and I feel ethically at ease for having beaten you at your own greedy gamne.

I had the same complaint when LR3 was released when the Europeans were charged much more than those in the US. The answer is simple, pay the price in USD on a credit card and let Visa take care of the conversion – both fair and simple. Come on, Adobe, why not?

Another Aussie here.
Adobe, sort yourselves out. I’m not paying a premium for the privilege of not being in the U.S.

I would also upgrade straight away, but not until Adobe fix this pricing issue.

Ditto everyone above from Australia. I live in New Zealand and have to purchase my software from the Aussy server.

Why should I be concerned with ripping off Adobe and using pirated software when Adobe clearly aren’t too worried about ripping off the rest of the world.

As it happens I won’t allow Adobe’s greed to force me into illegal software use. Luckily I have a family member going on a work trip to the USA at the end of March and they are going to pick up a boxed version for me.

If, however, Adobe continue this blatant discrimination I’ll just swap to someone else. Stuff ‘em.

Oh and isn’t it typical that despite the many, many posts on the pricing there hasn’t been a single reply from anyone at Adobe. Arrogant f***ers :(

I’m an Aussie expat living in the states. Was going to drop the coin to upgrade but won’t bother now out of solidarity with my Aussie brothers. I’ll stick with Lightroom 3 until Adobe fixes the disparity.

Not going to do the whole “I’ll pirate it because Adobe are greedy bastards” route, as it is all Americans think we are convicts that drink Fosters anyhow.

Had the credit card out and ready to purchase, but as many others have said the bulls*ht tax applied to Aussie customers is a disgrace.

Just make it 79AU & 149AU, whats the worst that would happen?… maybe people like me will buy it instead of passing on it and looking elsewhere.

Card put back in wallet.

Just wanted to say that I had my credit card ready to make the $79 upgrade purchase – very disappointed to see the price disparity for a downloaded product.

Ridiculous having such a high Aussie tax – I would be happy with a $10-$15 price differential, but > $40 – you have to be kidding me!

Another unhappy Aussie here Adobe. I’m sticking to L3.

Was looking at Lightroom, installed trial and quite happy with it. Been comparing with Corel AfterShot Pro, but Lightroom seems to do it for me more. But AU$205 is bullcrap. Head over to your favourite torrent site, download a published generated key, problem solved.

Adobe, once you fix your pricing disparity I will purchase your product. But as you are being unfair on the pricing I am being unfair to you and using a generated key and you get $0.

I know that if I cave in and buy the Aussie version, Adobe will drop the price closer to the US$ version within 48hrs of my purchase. I know they will……it’s always the way.

Sorry all you Aussies, not going to do it yet.

:-)

Yet another unhappy Aussie customer.
Just like many others here, I was ready to upgrade but stopped when I saw the price discrepancy between USD and AUD…
And still no reply from Adobe.
Hello, Adobe… Hello? This *is* an official Adobe site isn’t it?

I’ve been an Open Source user for ten years. On the basis of reviews of LR3 I was just about to buy 4, which would have been the first photo software I’d paid for, EVER.
Then I see the price you want Aussie Me to pay in comparison to my American photo pals.
Confirming to me the wisdom of staying Open Source. What a noxious pricing decision. Underscored by a seriously stupid silence.
Companies seem to have forgotten that respect is still a quality many consumers value. If you treat me like an idiot who will allow you to steal from me if I open my wallet then my decision is to penalise you by not giving you any of my money at all.
Smarten up.

Another Aussie here just waiting to buy from Adobe – all it will take is a reasonable price for Australian customers.

A stark warning to anyone purchasing Lightroom 4 from Adobe directly: DON’T! Do anything but buy direct from this bunch.

I’ve had no end of trouble. I ordered on 7th March – dispatch was listed on the product page as “usually within 24 hours”. On 9th March (having opted to pay by Paypal), my order and payment were still “pending” and so with a holiday impending, I decided to cancel.

I thought this shouldn’t be a problem since it was pending but there is no easy way to cancel. After a chat to their “Help”, I managed to cancel but my Paypal payment was still pending. On Monday I called Adobe as they STILL had not released the hold on my money although the agent did agree to send me an e-mail confirming that the order had been cancelled and that I would be contacted by 2nd tier manager in 24-48 hours (I haven’t been contacted).

Today, Wednesday (48 hours later), payment has been sent to Adobe but they’ve still to pick it up and when I log into my Adobe account, the order is now in progress again! A further long online chat to a useless Indian call centre manager and a call (at my considerable expense – again!) to an equally useless and godddam arrogant SOAB Adobe rep (God knows where) reveal that although my order was “cancelled”, another system ignored it and progressed it. So although it’s not been shipped (and might never be), they’ve taken my money for an order I have formal confirmation of that was cancelled.

Fantastic. Usually if you cancel an order, it’s simple, don’t ship it and don’t request the money (or refund if taken already). Adobe have ignored this entirely and rather fraudulently (IMO because I did not authorise this beyond the first attempt to purchase and was assured it was cancelled) ploughed ahead with the transaction I cancelled. Their Indian call centre said to phone when I receive it but confirmed it wasn’t yet shipped and I suspect wont ever be. The single worst online shopping experience I’ve ever had.

If someone at Adobe more senior than a 3rd party Indian call centre reads this then get in touch ASAP, please!

Adobe! You owe me money!!!!!

From Adobe today…

“Hello,

Thank you for contacting Adobe.

Adobe has already cancelled order AD001******UK and Authorization charges should be removed within 3 to 5 business days after cancellationn.

Thank you,
John
Adobe Support”

Ok….so I should have my money back already…but I don’t. Idiots. Absolute morons. This further confirms I wont receive the item and mirrors the previous emails I’ve had about cancellation but contradicts Adobe India regarding the order progressing.

And it contradicts my “Shipment history”:

And now I’ve just received a shipping email! Argh! Your systems do not talk to each other.

Just tried ringing Adobe (non)support to ask about the higher price for Aus/NZ customers but the 2o minutes of elevator ‘on hold’ music nearly drove me postal, so I hung up.

Come on Adobe – man up and answer the question – why do we not get the advertised 79US upgrade price? It’s a simple question and wouldn’t take one of your PR pawns long to come up with some excuse to appease the masses.

Another Aussie in disgust of our pricing treatment and lack of response from Adobe. Grow a pair and respond on this thread Adobe, clearly you’re risking loosing a huge market.

Same compaint as all the other Aussies here, it is ridiculous, it’s not like it’s extra for shipping as it is a digital download. Be Fair!

DAMN….. those Aussies are a bunch of whiny bitches eh?

wah! wah! wah!

consider it punishment for sending Paul Hogan and Nicole Kidman over here….
and Men At Work…. you gotta pay for that crap!

was really interested in LR4 because of some of the new features in the develop mode. Would have helped my workflow a lot.

In short – I would hold off on buying LR4.
Especially if you use Photoshop CS5 to do further editing.

When I try to edit in CS5 it tells me i need new Raw Plug-in 7.0
Which is not available for CS5.

If I ignore the warning and edit in PS any way- CS5 hangs.
I’ve tried all the “work arounds” short of using the beta of CS6. Most do not work or are unacceptability cumbersome.
Who wants to use a Beta of anything for production work?
Not me. Especially after the latest upgrade to LR4.
LR is suppose to stream line work flow not complicate it. This version is a DOG.

Check out the Photoshop family forums at photoshop.com to get an Idea of all the issues.
Some of which did not exist in the beta version.
On top of all that it’s slower than LR3.
Had to go back to LR3 for production work. LR4 is just too unreliable.
My recommendation for now is DO NOT BUY.

+1 Complaint against charging us Aussies more for a digital download!

If you could email me with a few hints on how you made this website look this good , I would be thankful!

+1 Aussie stopped in my tracks from buying the LR4 upgrade download due to the price differential in AUD vs USD. Was understandable when the AUD only bought us 0.75 USD, but now?? seriously??

NOT happy Jan!!

IT SUCKS THAT AUSTRALIANS (AND ANYWHERE ELSE) HAVE TO BUY ADOBE AT 33% INFLATED PRICES FOR A DOWNLOAD !!! I AM JUST GOING TO WAIT TO GO TO THE STATES TO BUY IT IN A FEW MONTHS INSTEAD OF UPGRADING TO LR4 NOW. AND THEY WONDER WHY SO MANY PEOPLE PIRATE SOFTWARE !!! IT IS BECAUSE WE FEEL CHEATED ! ACTUALLY CONSIDERING OF SWITCHING TO CAPTURE 1 PRO 1 – at least they dont rip us off for our location.

I am going to Capture… sorry Adobe … too much bullshit here … too many complaints … and silence from you. Shame on you.

sorry to see that the Fill Light in Develop mode is gone…other than that…I’m enjoying getting to know the new incarnation of Lightroom!!!

Price disparity for Australian customers is disappointing. Looking for an alternative…

I discovered this on bing and checked a few of your older posts. Great writing. I just added your blog to my MSN NewsReader. I’ll be keeping up with the site!

Wow that was odd. I just wrote an really long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyhow, just wanted to say superb blog!

I think you have mentioned some very interesting points, thank you for the post.

Wow. It’s so nice to find somebody with some new ideas on this. Thanks for the interesting discussion.

+1 Australian annoyed by Adobe trying to charge me extra to upgrade (because they can). LR3 will do for now; this certainly prompts me to have another look at alternatives.

Carry on and win over other people by expressing your ideas about vegetable salads and I’ll be one of the people that will continually there to help cheer you up.

Another discontented Aussie, was going to get both Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6, but won’t get either until Adobe change their discriminatory pricing policy. It is nothing short of legalised theft.

Beautifully really interesting.

Final assessment of the pricing issue stated and restated above … Adobe is too big to give a shit!

No buy from me either.

Here’s my conversation with a customer rep regarding Aussie pricing:

Kathleen: Hi. Ok. I’m probably the millionth Aussie to say this, but I am being charged 50% more for the same download. It has stopped me from purchasing the product (Lightroom). I think Adobe needs to have a fair international price at current rates. The Aussie dollar is higher than the US dollar at the moment.

Shirley: I understand your concern, however, there are many factors that decide pricing like ‘the cost of doing business in each country’ and the ‘difference in the perceived value of the product’.

So I think what they are saying here is that if the customer really wants the product, they’ll pay whatever is asked of them and Aussies are prepared to pay a higher price as we’re stupid enough to do so because we do love our technology. The ‘cost of doing business’ cannot be much higher for a downloadable product and even if it was, is it high enough to justify an extra 50%!? I doubt it.

What a collection, take a moment a glance at the photographs around the auctioneers web web site. I would go-if it was not to the other side from the nation.
