Introducing the All New Photoshop Express for Android

Today’s a big day for Adobe’s consumer team, as we’re announcing a significant update to one of our most popular apps – Photoshop Express for Android.

What you’ll love about this release:

  • This version was rebuilt completely from the ground up for Android and is KitKat compatible. We have made every effort to fine-tune the app for Android. As an example, Android users will appreciate accessing and processing images saved on the SD card faster than before.
  • We’ve focused on making the app easy-to-use by bringing the most popular features to the top. ‘Looks’ (our word for filters), cropping, red eye reduction, and auto-correct are now all easy-to-discover.
  • Our more savvy users will appreciate the Corrections menu with slider controls to fine-tune exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, temperature, tint, etc.
  • Under the hood, this release is powered by Adobe’s latest image rendering engine, coming to Android for the first time. This engine greatly improves performance and enables handling of large file sizes.
  • It’s still free.

Also in this release, you’ll notice integration with Adobe Revel. If you haven’t used Revel already, you should give it a try. Revel is an app that lets you keep all of your family photos and videos in one place – organized, and available to share just with whom you want. Use Revel to share photos and videos with different circles of friends and family – only invitees can contribute or see what’s shared. It’s relationship-based, personal sharing. And with this new version of Photoshop Express you can easily save the photos you edit directly to Revel.

Photoshop Express has consistently received more than four out of five stars, and has sat strong in the top 20 apps on Google Play in the Photography category. This makes us even more excited to get this significant update in the hands of every Android user out there. Download and give it a try today and let us know what you think. We listen very closely when you speak.

How’s the support for ART (the new Adobe runtime to replace Dalvik, eventually)? Lots of complaints that it doesn’t work on Google Play.

ART is not an ‘Adobe Runtime’, it stands for Android RunTime and is developed by Goog

Yes Stephen, we are also seeing the issues being reported about Google’s Android Runtime (ART). Since ART is very early and experimental in nature, we are working with our counterparts at Google to find a fix for their new runtime.

    Hi Stephen,

We have successfully resolved the ART related issues in the app. An update was posted to the Google Play store this morning. We’ve also reached out to the folks who were experiencing ART related issues and a lot of them have started getting the update. Hope you get a chance to give the app a try again.

Why hasn’t Revel been Integrated with Photoshop touch? These are big apps and they’re largely equivalent in most functions when Compared. I don’t want to have to install other. Why the fragmentation?

I wasn’t to be able to access/browse/download from/upload to Revel from Photoshop Touch, and then I will subscribe. Also need a better way to get video onto Revel from mobile device.

If this app is so good, why wouldn’t you use an image actually fixed using it. The sample image in this post is a complete lie and actually represents a photo that is beyond fixing. There is just no way that the colors and details were recovered from the areas of the image that are so overexposed that they are fully white.

Please replace this image with something more realistic. It’s just flat out misleading.

“is KitKat compatible” no, KitKat has 2 possible runtimes, anyone with a brain who read about ART has switched to it. The app crashes as soon as it’s launched

    Hi Maff,

We are excited about ART but as you know is experimental in nature and not ready from primetime (per Google). We are still looking to meet the needs of our Android users who like to be on the leading edge. Look for an update soon in the Google Play store!

    Hi Maff,

We have fixed the ART related issues and an update is available in the Google Play store as of this morning (PST). Hope you get to give it a try again!

ok

I agree with Darren above, the image seems a bit unbelieveable that photoshop was able to do that.. but if it does, awesome – perhaps you can clarify if that was real?

Hello, I wonder if Photoshop is forecast to reach Windows Phone Express, or if you intend to release it.

Pending the response,
