  1. I installed Elements 11 yesterday and seem to have some teething problems. When I select an image in iPhoto for editing my mac will open Elements 11, as the designated External editor, but no image is shown and, secondly, when a RAW image is moved into Elements 11 it is shown as a jpeg image and the expected RAW slider tools for adjustment do not appear.

How can I solve these problems?

For JPEG image needs to be edited as RAW you can follow the steps mentioned above in Mac column.

For iPhoto issue – The file which is top level folder of the PSE 11 folder in Applications is the Welcome screen. You must chose the Editor, which is hidden in the support files folder: Check here http://forums.adobe.com/message/5195867#5195867

    • Garry,

I have tried both of your suggestions and neither has worked. Taking the second one first I can choose the Editor within the Support Files folder but all I get is the welcome screen asking me to choose either the Editor or Organiser. I cannot select an image in iPhoto for and select Edit and find the image on the Editor screen. I have to drag images to the desktop and then drag them to the Editor. What is the problem?

I presume that you are referring to the Open File command in Camera Raw. Again if I select an image in iPhoto I am not offered a dropdown box and why are RAW images always shown as jpeg?

My IT skills are limited but I had similar problems with RAW in Elements 9 and hoped that version 11 would be faultless. Should I return Elements and opt for apple’s Aperture?

Hi! I’m having the same issue in Windows. How do I go about opening in ACR.
    Thanks!

      Hi Lisa,
What is the same issue you are referring to? The steps in article explains about how you can open files in ACR in Windows as well as Mac. When you choose File->Open As are you not able to see camera raw in your format drop down options? In that case ACR plugin is not present or somehow might have got deleted from your machine. The ACR is located on Windows at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 11\File Formats. In that case if it does`nt exists you can download and place here from link shared in article.

  4. I have a Mac 10.6.8; when I go to File and click Open, nothing happens–no new window, no drop-down menu.
Any ideas how I can open JPG files in Elements 10?

In that case ACR plugin is not present or somehow might have got deleted from your machine. In that case if it does`nt exists you can use Help->Updates and check if it shows ACR update. Also it might be posisble that PSE10 may/may not support latest ACR 7.4. In case no window comes up when you click File->Open try shortcut – Cmd+O. In worse case if nothing comes up try this:
Try resetting the PSE preferences by
      1. Close Elements.
      2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Edit.
      3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
      Hope it helps.

I am afraid there is no way for multiple file openings via Open As in ACR. I tried couple of other workarounds but none of them seems to be of your need.
      Thanks.

    Hi Garry

All of these fixes don’t address the problem I have. I want to open and edit a jpeg in ACR. I am running PSE 11 on a Mac. Apparently I should be able to do so from within PSE editor, by going to File>open then browse to the jpeg. It’s browsing I can’t do. I use a Mac so my photos are in iPhoto library. Normally in Finder I’m able to right click the iPhoto library and ‘show package contents’ which then reveals all of the files with the library…but from within PSE editor, right clicking does nothing, so I cannot navigate to the individual files.
ACR is working fine, because if I open a raw file in iPhoto, ACR opes as it should. What I really need is to open jpegs in ACR.
    Any ideas?

Kindly post your query here http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements so you can get more clues and results on how to resolve it.
    Thanks.

  8. Jim Chaffin says:

The problem, if you are using a new version of OS X, is that in step 4 (for the Mac, above) there is no designation of WHICH dropdown to use. In newer versions, there are TWO dropdown lists. The fist simply determines what types of files to show, All Readable Documents is the default, I believe. But that is NOT the dropdown that is referred to in step 4. ;-) The dropdown you need to use is labeled “Format:” and in that list should be a “Camera Raw” choice. With that dropdown set to Camera Raw, anything you can select in the files list will open in the ACR window. ;-)
