Adobe Reader now available on Honeycomb devices

We’re pleased to announce the immediately availability of Adobe Reader 10.0.2 on the Android Honeycomb based tablets! So if you have a Xoom or any other Honeycomb based device, you should be able to go ahead and install the Reader from the Android Market right away.

If you have any feedback or comments on this release, please feel free to post your comments here or on the User-to-user forums. You can also follow us on Twitter to stay up to date on the latest.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This Adobe Reader update requires permissions to read PDF attachments from Email and Gmail clients due to a known bug in the Android OS versions >= 2.3.

Update 5/11/2011: We hear you! The email permissions have been removed and the update is now on the Market. However, please note that due to the issue with Android versions >= 2.3 mentioned above, the first time you try and open a PDF attachment from Gmail or default Email client on your Android device it may not open. The workaround is to try again, and it should open correctly. Enjoy!

This explanation for needing to add Gmail privileges to open PDF attachments doesn’t make sense, since the prior version – without the Gmail privilege – opens PDF attachments without any problems.

Can you clarify what has changed that suddenly requires this extra privilege?
