Fw CS5- state name changes

There is a small change in how States are automatically named when exported. This will also lead to some changes when slices are exported in the different states.

The changes in beahvior from Fireworks CS4 to CS5 have been documented in a technote at this URL. It also gives a detail in how one can ensure to have the same behavior as in Fireworks CS4.

First let me say that I am a total fan of Fireworks, and have been using it for years. I teach it to others and spread the word of it’s greatness for designing web graphics. But I cannot understand why Fireworks CS5 would add _s1 to the names of any slice. I have never seen any web designer use such naming conventions. Typically you’ll have something like:buttonbutton-overbutton-downetc.If I name a slice, that’s the name I want. I don’t expect Fireworks to add something like _s1 as it now does (but never did in previous versions).I know I can define a custom naming and set it as the default, but that only works for new files. Now I have to go back and change “every” file I’ve ever made. Please forgive my criticism, but it’s very irritating and a total waste of time that I have to change all my files for what seems like a silly change. I can’t imagine anyone wanting this change, so can you shed some light as to why this was done? I’d really love to understand the thinking behind it, because I just don’t get it.

I remember a problem where, if you are on say State 3 which has multiple slices. If you select that slice and export it, the slice will silently overwrite the state 1 exported file. If the State 1 file was not exported prior there will be no issues.

I am having the same problem. It’s frustrating me to no end. I work off templates and it’s automatically renaming my slices, messing everything up. Did you come up with a fix for this? I don’t want to have to continue to rename my slices after exporting .

I am having this issue in a single state file, it’s a complete pain having to go in and rename multiple files as ‘Renamer’ doesn’t like it for some reason!
