Coming to a Screen Near You

With the explosion of the mobile and tablet market, mobility is top of mind. Customers want to stay connected with their favorite brands and companies wherever they are and have come to expect a consistent experience at their fingertips, regardless of the device they are using. For businesses, managing and delivering optimized content to meet their customers’ expectations across multiple devices was difficult, manual and time consuming…until now.

The latest release of Adobe Scene7 automates the delivery of rich media with the consumer’s device in mind. The new Universal Viewer dramatically simplifies the deployment of optimized viewing for each screen  with drag-and-drop configuration. Delivering interactive experiences across desktops, smartphones, and tablets is now as easy as including a single universal Scene7 URL tied to a particular media asset. The URL has built-in device intelligence to automatically serve image or video content in the right viewer and the right format. Since mobile touch gestures as well as mouse-driven interactivity are supported with one single URL, the implementation of each URL previously required to optimize for each device is eliminated.

After all, different screens deserve different experiences.

This release also offers increased support for video content creation and instantaneous playback as well as HTML5. Click here for complete details of the latest Adobe Scene7 release.

Is your online experience ready for your mobile shoppers?

Last month, we hosted a sold-out webinar featuring Forrester Research Principal Analyst Brian Walker, and our own Sheila Dahlgren.

The response was overwhelming, as we continued to get questions and feedback from the audience days after the event. Clearly, mobile is on people’s minds these days, as this channel is triggering profound behavioral changes that have deep implications for both traditional and pure-play online retailers.

To be sure, mobile represents lots of exciting opportunities, but it’s also a difficult channel to navigate, not least because it’s a fragmented ecosystem with numerous operating systems and multitudes of devices that continue to proliferate.

This webinar is a great primer for any business that wants to start integrating mobile into their digital roadmap. It’s also a great reality check for those who are already experimenting in this space. Brian and Sheila examine use cases that have implications for how businesses can build out an effective mobile strategy. For example, a key discussion point centers on making a choice between apps versus browser-based experiences.

For the first time, we also publicly presented some powerful research derived from our mobile survey around mobile consumers’ preferences and behavior, including their preferred entry point for shopping (i.e., browser versus apps), where they’re spending their time, how much they’re spending on mobile purchases—plus, who the top shoppers and purchasers are.

If you would like to listen to a playback of the webinar, click here. We promise it will be one hour well spent.

You will learn:

  • What consumers want from their mobile experiences: Highlights from Adobe survey
  • The state of mobile commerce & today’s mobile ecosystem
  • How to get started & integrate mobile into your commerce environment

Farewell... and Thank You!

dmack2.jpgAfter more than a decade with Scene7, I have decided to take the next step in my journey and accepted a CEO position with a venture backed start-up. I would like to thank you for all your support through the years - together, we made Scene7 a core element of the eCommerce mosaic. Our team has continually innovated to help you enhance the customer experience on your sites - and you have continued to push the edge of 'the possible' with our solution in your hands.

I can honestly say Scene7 has never been stronger, providing me with great confidence for its next chapter. With the great resources of Adobe, Scene7 and our team has really thrived - dramatically expanding our solution, customer base and global footprint. In addition, Scene7 has been under the day-to-day leadership of my Scene7 co-founders for quite some time - Pete Noel and Sheila Dahlgren - so it is "business as usual" for our customers. In fact, as I sign off from "MackTalk," Pete, Sheila and their band of industry experts, will continue to provide insights, best practices and tips to help you grow your eCommerce businesses - and are re-naming this blog "ShopTalk."

As I've now spent the majority of my career working in and around eCommerce, I am excited to share that I am remaining in the industry - in fact, getting even deeper in. I'll be taking the helm for a very exciting eCommerce company back on the retail side of the aisle, and I can't wait to be a Scene7 customer. I will be sharing my destination very soon and plan to spin up a new blog about start-up life - if you'd like to keep in touch, please connect with me on Twitter:

Thanks again - and I look forward to seeing you at the eCommerce events...

Welcome to MackTalk

For more than a decade, I have been working on Internet-related things – and have spent time in a broad range of capacities. Most recently, I’ve focused on solutions that drive innovation and rich online experiences. Throughout these years I have found tremendous opportunities exist for eCommerce and multi-channel marketers to differentiate themselves online and enhance their customer experiences. As we enter 2009, facing an economic downturn and eCommerce growth rates that have slowed to single digits worldwide, customer experience is more important now than ever. Thus, I am initiating this interactive forum to share insights and best practices on the latest trends we are seeing in the marketplace - and “Quick Tips” to help you improve your customer experience, ultimately driving conversions and revenues.

I have been privileged to work with some of the industry’s best talent in rich media and customer experience from whom I have learned so much and been inspired along the way. Many of these experts have even obliged me and will contribute their insights and perspectives on this blog as well. So as you visit, let us know what you think - we’d love to hear from you – and please add to the dialogue.

So, here is the first of many Quick Tips to get started with some rich media “basics” (101 level) to drive your customer experience – over time, we’ll ladder up to more advance concepts.
