Welcome to my Blog
Greetings. This is my first blog post and I'm excited to be able to establish a dialog with other people interested in After Effects as well as the general topics of motion graphics and visual effects. I thought I'd kick things off with a brief bio and my goals for this blog.
Bio: I've been in video and computer graphics for a while (anyone remember the Cubicomp Picturemaker?). After Cubicomp, I worked on DDR's and character generators at Abekas. It's hard to believe today that $60K in 1989 got you a DDR that could record 25 seconds (30 in PAL) of uncompressed video. I joined Adobe in 1995 and am the product manager for Adobe After Effects.
I have always been amazed by the strong sense of community among After Effects users going all the way back to the AOL COSA forum, and want to use this blog as a way to contribute to the community.
I plan to share my views on news related to After Effects and motion graphics and visual effects, plus share info about resources to learn more about AE. I'll also pass along info about cool sites our users create to showcase their work or share their knowledge.
I welcome feedback on things you like about this blog and suggestions on how to improve it.

Steve,
This is needed. You will probably become inundated with hits soon.
Is this a AE blog or a motion graphics blog?
Hi Nigel,
My primary objective is to focus on After Effects, but as the blog matures I expect to expand into topics of general interest about motion graphics and visual effects.
Steve, I am brand new to After Effects 6.5 Pro. In fact, i completed my very first project last night (an animated menu for an Ultraman DVD to be used in Encore) and was gleeful as a Pilsbury elf! I love this stuff! I'll be sure to check your blog often. thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Hi Steve, Thanks for setting this blog up! You're awesome! I think it's just the thing to open up more communication. If you don't mind me plugging mograph.net, it's a great forum for AE users, with less focus on technical blah blah, and more focus on creative process, style and the general awesomeness that can be created with AE. Hope you Adobe folks get a chance to stop by and socialize too, or at least lurk.
As far as suggestions for the blog, what about a section for suggesting future AE features? I know there are a zillion AE users bursting at the seams to suggest new AE features, myself included.
Why AE? You are limiting yourself? Are you doing this because this is an Adobe affiliated blog?
You should do a blog on motion design. Covering concepts, theory and design.
AE is just a tool. People should have a vision of what they want to do and use the tools to do their work.
Focusing on AE causes people to concentrate on AE first and then visualization later.
However...I don't know everything :-)
Good idea and good luck for your blog.I´m already waiting for fresh news from Adobe and AE.
Regards
from Brazil
Hi Alan,
Thanks for sharing info about the mograph forum. I can commit to at least lurking.
We are always interested in hearing about feature requests. The best way to ensure that these get reviewed by the team is to email them to: aftereffects@adobe.com
Feature requests are reviewed by the team on a weekly basis.
Hey Nigel you did read that Steve is the Senior Product Manager for AE didn't you? Getting people to concentrate on After Effects is "exactly" what Steve should be doing!
