Animation and Motion Graphics Conference

I'm always on the lookout for events that facilitate the cross-pollination of motion graphics disciplines (typically characterized in terms of tools by After Effects and Flash).

The Best in the Southwest conference in Albuquerque this Oct. is looking like it could an excellent springboard for exchanging ideas, learning about new tools, meeting new people, and being a source of inspiration. As a disclaimer, I haven't been to this conference before, so I can't attest to the quality of the sessions, but after perusing the speaker line-up looks like an all-star group of presenters. If you are interested in presenting, its not too late. The deadline for speaking submissions is June 30th.

As an added bonus, the conference takes place during the Albuquerque balloon festival which is on my list of events to see before I get too old to travel!

We have a great line-up for the 2007 Best in the SW: Flash Animation & Motion Graphics Festival - on the After Effects and VFX side -- Mark Coleran, Trish & Chris Meyer, and Alex Lindsay to name a few. For Flash animation, we are excited to have Silvia Pompei, Phil Nibbelink, Chris Georgenes and more.

Just as an aside, Phil Nibbelink (a former Disney animator), finished a full-length animated children's feature - completely in Flash! It was a daunting task - it took him about 5 years to complete, and over 112,000 drawings. Aaron at Cold Hard Flash did an interview with Phil last Fall :: read it :: if you get a chance! We will have the NM Premiere of Phil's movie, "Romeo & Juliet: Sealed With a Kiss" as one of our evening events.

Also a reminder, that the early bird deadline for registration is only days away - June 30. Register by this date to save over $300. Registration starts as low as $399 ($249 for students).

For more information, visit our website at We look forward to seeing everyone at this year's Best in the SW!
