We recently ran an online seminar about eInvoicing in Europe. Many Adobe Solution Partners attended the event live through Acrobat Connect. If you have missed the session but are interested in the topic you can view the recording here.
A couple of highlights from the session:
- more then 30 billion invoices every year in Europe only!
- EU directive for eInvoicing sets a number of conditions for invoicing
- European Committee for standardization have agreed a number of common working agreements
- XML capabilities in PDF allow to absorb data from various sources to build an invoice
- Supplier of an invoice must be able to ensure that data on the invoice can not be altered anywhere in the process
- Auditing must be possible for each step in the invoicing process
- Adobe LiveCycle allows to design, generate and issue invoices in an automated process
- Adobe Partners can extend the Adobe offerings

Earlier this month Jason Bloomberg & Ronald Schmelzer from ZapThink posted an article on their blog about the stages the RIA market is going through. In the article they conclude that as the internet penetrates every aspect of life, every new application will be connected to the internet and rich in design – hence dissolving a separate RIA market.
In the early days of RIAs (a term coined by Macromedia in the 1990s) it was referring to products that addressed the limitations in the richness of application interfaces, media and content available on the Internet. Now RIAs mostly describe web applications that have similar interfaces and functionalities as desktop applications.
RIAs are typically used to act as the interface to services in a service oriented architecture (SOA). The distributed nature of RIAs make a good fit with the services orientation most enterprises have adopted and hence the authors think the RIA market will continue to expierence healthy growth.

Many of the Adobe Solution Partners who now develop Rich Internet Applications’s using Adobe AIR and Flex technologies have a background in enterprise Java development. These developers are used to having a broad array of development tools at their disposal.
Did you know an increasing number of tools are entering the market to support the RIA development process? And not all run on the desktop. Today, there are some great web and desktop rich Internet applications that can assist with the development process – in short, here are some RIAs that can help make better RIAs.

Our congratulations to Aktive Reply and Netbasics, Adobe’s EMEA Solution Partner Recognition winners for the second quarter of 2009.
Aktive Reply was chosen for the complete solution they built for a major worldwide Italian energy corporation, whose evolving market required a flexible tool that could manage an increasing number of contract types, adapt quickly to the supply requirements of demand, and allow real-time editing of offers by end users. Aktive Reply’s solution starts on the customer’s existing Siebel side, and then continues on the Adobe LiveCycle platform, where a master template is called and composed at runtime with selected data. A PDF contract can then be modified by the business department using Adobe Acrobat. Complex scripting rules have been developed in order to simplify the application usage by non-technical users, and currently all new contracts at the company are built with this solution.
Netbasics was chosen because they designed and developed a Flex application that makes it possible for their customer to visualize an activated organizational structure-including police, fire, medical, and water management departments-when an incident or crisis occurs. The solution was created using a Flex front-end application with a ColdFusion back-end, and the XML data layer and export functionality make it possible to download the application and execute it from CD ROM or DVD. The powerful functionality and versatile nature of Flex made it the perfect tool for visualizing complex models and helping in the speed, development, and style of the application-and Netbasic’s customer has been very positive about the results.
Join them – take advantage of your Partner Recognition benefit and submit your company for the Q3 award. Just log in to the Partner Portal for the application and complete contest rules. The Q3 application deadline has just been extended to October 2. We’ll announce the Q3 winner (or winners!) in October.

As Adobe Solution Partner you are naturally keen to use the latest Adobe technology and products. Acrobat.com should be on your list of daily productivity tools. The site offers a set of online services to create and share documents, communicate in real time, and facilitate collaboration. With Acrobat.com, you can:
-
Store up to 5 GB of files in your online organizer, accessible from anywhere with a web browser.
-
Share large files with others, without sending bulky emails. You can limit access to just invited people, or alternatively make your documents accessible to everyone by embedding a link on a web page or blog.
-
Convert documents to PDF.
-
Create documents with Adobe® Buzzword®, an online word processor.
-
Collaborate with Adobe ConnectNow web conferencing software.
Acrobat.com is very well integrated in Acrobat 9. From the Collaboration menu documents can be uploaded to Acrobat.com for storage and review with other users.
Connect-now is the star of this suite. It is a great way to share ideas, discuss details, and complete work together — all online. It allows you to share an entire desktop, an application or a single window. Attendees see what’s happening on your screen but you can also take control of another meeting participant’s desktop with their permission. This is useful for collaborative work sessions and technical support. The free version allows 3 meeting participants while the paid versions allow either 5 or 20 attendees.

All of these tools just take a system powerful enough to run Flash (Most of the tools require Flash 9). You’ll create a free account, log in, and begin creating content.
Let us know what services of Acrobat.com you are most excited about on our Linkedin Poll.
