Trials now available
I am slightly late in sharing this important piece of information with you all - trial builds of Adobe RoboHelp 7, Adobe RoboHelp Server 7 and Technical Communication Suite are now available on the Adobe.com. The specific URL's are:
| Adobe RoboHelp 7 | www.adobe.com/go/tryrobohelp |
| Adobe RoboHelp Server 7 | www.adobe.com/go/tryrobohelpserver |
| Adobe Technical Communication Suite | www.adobe.com/go/trytcs |
There are some significant changes that we have done to the Trial version of Adobe RoboHelp. There is no restriction on the number of topics, no scrambling of text in the output. Trial version is a fully functional time bound (30 days validity) build. If you like the Trial and decide to buy the RoboHelp licence, all you need to do is, buy one online and enter the same on the startup screen. You do not need to uninstall the trial build or install anything extra.
There is one important point that you should be aware of - Adobe RoboHelp 7 is supported on Windows 2000, however the Trial is not. So, if you install the Trial version on Windows 2000, it will ask you for a serial number and will not let you run the product in Trial mode. The Trial version is supported only on Windows XP and Vista.
If you have any questions about Platforms supported or other System Requirements, please visit the specific product pages for detailed information on the same.

In case you find some difficultly in installing and/or working with the Trial build, you can refer to the knowledge base articles and Adobe RoboHelp forum. I encourage you to share the feedback about the product. You can reach me at amadan@adobe.com

Hi,
I'm ready to buy but I'm not clear on what I get with RoboHelp Server 7. If I purchase RH Server 7, am I also getting RH 7 (the authoring environment) as part of the deal, or is that extra?
Thanks!

RoboHelp Server SKU doesn't come with RoboHelp (the authoring application). You need to buy it separately. We have rationalised the SKU's and now have just two of them - RoboHelp (authoring application - contains RoboHelp HTML, RoboHelp for Word, RoboScreenCapture, RoboSource Control and a Adobe PDF Creation Add-on) and RoboHelp Server

Well, one of my (almost local) Adobe-approved trainers is trying to set up a class (no schedule yet).
Is the "Help" file good in the trial version so I have some documentation to help me create some documentation? ;-P

Adobe RoboHelp 7 fetches help pages dynamically from the web - the latest ones. You can even view this documentation without buying the product or installing any bits. Visit - http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/robohelp

Hi Shane,
I think the best option is to Try out the build. Please download the same from www.adobe.com/products/rohohelpserver.

Is there any plans on adding robohelp to one of the package suites?

It is already available. We have a brand new suite - Adobe Technical Communication Suite specifically targetted at Technical Communication. You can read more about it on Adobe.com - http://www.adobe.com/products/technicalcommunicationsuite/

Thanks for making the trial version available. Do you know of any problems with it that would limit the integration between RH and Framemaker, or is that functionality not available in the trial version?
In RH, I do not have the option to add FrameMaker files by reference. (http://picasaweb.google.com/mjoneill/TCommSuite/photo?authkey=njSj-9GpEqA#5131988806573725714)
All applications installed from the Technical Communications Suite. OS is Win2k3. Is there a known problem with the suite or with this configuration that would prevent me from evaluating the integration between RH and FrameMaker?

Hi Michael,
I am not sure what you mean by Win2K3. TCS is only supported on Win Xp sp2 and Vista.

I'm evaluating TCS for converting my Framemaker books to RoboHelp's Webhelp. (I was using ePublisher Pro but it doesn't support FM8). Is there a limit to the FM file size that RoboHelp can convert or a limitation in the trial TCS license preventing this? What I've found is that FM files in my book that are larger than 20.0 MB do not convert (the rest do). There is no error reported. They simply do not appear in the topic list but a placeholder is inserted in the RH Project Files folder. If I split up these greater than 20 MB chapters into two smaller sized files they do convert. Hope this is an appropriate forum to ask this. I read the product release notes, checked the KB and Adobe user forums with no luck. I called Adobe Sales who referred me to support who said that they will not support a trial version and cannot answer any questions. I am ready to purchase it but I need to know whether there is in fact a file size limit or perhaps another issue. I am running TCS on Win XP SP2, 1 MB RAM. I like TCS and the media rich capability so my goal is to figure out how to make this work. Thanks.

Hi Anne,
1) The trial versions are as good as the final versions for 30 days. So there is no extra restriction in the Trial builds.
2) This is the first time that I am hearing about this problem. I would suggest you to send across your document (if possible) to me (my email address is amadan@adobe.com) and I shall have a look at it myself.
Regards,
Akshay
