RoboHelp Server 10

RoboHelp Server 10 is now available!

Today, I am pleased to announce the availability of RoboHelp Server 10, the latest version of RoboHelp Server product. In this release, we have introduced new functionalities and enhanced several existing ones. RoboHelp Server 10 enables authors using RoboHelp or FrameMaker to collaborate seamlessly with fellow writers, quickly publish their content in popular formats including Responsive HTML5 and WebHelp Pro, track usage real time, and ensure secure and authenticated access to the content.

Yes, you read it right! With the third update to the FrameMaker (2015 release) and RoboHelp (2015 release), you can leverage RoboHelp Server 10 to create, manage and track your Responsive HTML5 content.

Host Responsive HTML5 content published with Adobe RoboHelp (2015 release)

You can now host Responsive HTML5 content on Adobe RoboHelp Server. This allows your end users to access content on a multitude of devices, including mobile devices. The primary advantage of Responsive HTML5 output is that your content is rendered seamlessly on all screen sizes (desktops, tablets, and phones). Adobe RoboHelp also allows you to create dynamic filters. These dynamic filters enable end users to access personalized content.

Host Responsive HTML5 content published with Adobe FrameMaker (2015 release)

In addition to RoboHelp, you can also publish Responsive HTML5 output from FrameMaker (2015 release) to RoboHelp Server. This is a new feature in FrameMaker introduced with Update 3 for FrameMaker (2015 release), which is also launched today (see this blog).

Track content usage real time

RoboHelp Server 10 - Search Term Analytics

RoboHelp Server provides out-of-the-box reports that would give you specific statistical aspects of your help system’s usage. You can use the report data to identify strong and weak areas of your Help content and take corrective measures. Along with the existing reports, now get analytics reports for Responsive HTML5 output as well. You can access usage reports based on browser statistics, topic views, page visits, and more. The feature-level reports for dynamic content filters enable you to personalize content for greater relevance.

The following reports have been added or enhanced in the latest release of RoboHelp Server:

  • New Dynamic filter tag usage report

  • Enhanced browser report

  • Enhanced operating system report

  • Enhanced topic, search, and page visit reports for Responsive HTML5


Deployment and architectural enhancements

Exporting and importing setup configurations in RoboHelp Server is extremely simple. You can quickly replicate environments for testing or staging. Another major enhancement has been done in the form of integration with Java Database Connectivity (JDBC). The JDBC settings can be easily configured in RoboHelp Server Configuration Manager. In this release, the default database has been changed from Microsoft Access to Apache Derby to make default installation production-ready.


Database connectivity enhancements

You can use the built-in Apache Derby database or select an external database to store reports and authentication information for RoboHelp Server. Apache Derby, an Apache DB subproject, is an open source relational database implemented entirely in Java and available under the Apache License, Version 2.0.

The following external database management systems are supported:

  • Oracle 12c and 11g R2

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express Edition

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014, 2012, or 2008 R2


IIS and Apache support

Take advantage of support for IIS and Apache Tomcat. Host different help systems by creating multiple contexts and configuring different instances of Adobe RoboHelp Server. You can configure RoboHelp Server to work with Apache Tomcat, which is free, open source web server. Tomcat is one of the largest deployed web services in the world and can be used as a standalone web server. If your IT or Web Administrator prefers, they can configure Windows Internet Information Services (IIS) to work in combination with the Tomcat web server.


LDAP integration

RoboHelp Server 10 provides user authentication through both database and LDAP. To integrate RoboHelp Server with LDAP, the administrator has to provide base search node for users or groups in the LDAP tree. Till RoboHelp Server 9, only those users or groups which were directly under the specified nodes, could be authenticated from RoboHelp Server. Starting from RoboHelp Server 10, all users or groups which are in different sub-nodes within the base node can also be authenticated.
