NEW: Adobe Generation – Free Online Courses for Students

Adobe Generation Is Back; 2013/14 Syllabus Launches with Two Additional Creative Courses

Video Production and Apps Design courses now available alongside Photo Imaging, Animation and Games Design through Adobe Generation

London, UK.—  12 November, 2013 Adobe today announces the return of Adobe Generation with the rollout of five new free online courses, which will support up to 50,000  students (aged 14-19) and teachers across the UK to develop the creative skills needed in today’s digitally driven workforce and education system. Following the success of the courses in 2012, Adobe Generation 2013/14 will be kicking off on Tuesday 19th November until 8th July next year.

Bigger and more expansive than before, Adobe Generation now includes Video Production and App Design courses alongside the existing course portfolio of Photo Imaging, Games Design and Animation. The introduction of the extra courses will mean students have the opportunity to develop a wider range of digital design skills and responds to the growing demands from industry for multi skilled individuals – known as the ‘new creatives.’

Each course runs over a five week period, with one live online session taking place every week over Adobe Connect on a Tuesday at 7pm. Students will be taught a different aspect of their chosen discipline each week and will be set tasks to help them put those skills into practice via a free trial of Adobe Creative Cloud, with the best work each week being awarded a prize. Students will also have access to recordings of each weekly session so they can catch-up if they missed it live.

In addition to learning key creative skills, such as how to plot a story line of a game or cut and edit a video into a final narrative sequence, students will also be able to explore different creative careers firsthand. Each week, industry experts including world class fashion photographer Kevin Foord and national newspaper Photo Editor Jason Brake, will lead the course and share their own experiences of what it is like to work in their chosen field, as well as provide advice on how students can become the next big games designer or movie producer.

Students who complete the courses will be given an Adobe certificate to help validate their skills and bolster their portfolio ahead of applying for university or a job. They will also be encouraged to continue their learning and move towards Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) – a national qualification validating entry-level skills in digital communications using Adobe tools.

Mark A’ Bear, Education Manager at Adobe UK said: “Employers are increasingly looking for multi-skilled creatives, and we are confident that the new, expanded set of Adobe Generation courses will support young people in becoming that. Adobe Generation was a great success last year. Students that took part told us that the courses not only helped to boost their confidence and digital skills, but many also used the portfolio of work they created  to apply for a job or a place at university. Likewise, almost a quarter of people who took part last year were teachers looking to develop their own digital skills for professional development and use in the classroom. We urge students and teachers alike to sign up to this year’s Adobe Generation and experience firsthand how the courses can benefit them.”

Details of 2013/ 2014 courses are:

  • Photo Imaging – runs each Tuesday from 19th November -  17th December at 7- 8:30pm
