Share, Discuss and Learn with Adobe Education Exchange

I’m sure most  lecturers will agree that hearing about their peers’ experiences and getting their advice is incredibly valuable. Learning new techniques and approaches, what’s worked and what hasn’t, is what helps keep teaching fresh and inspired. That’s why we’ve just launched a new public discussion forum on the Adobe Education Exchange.

In a nutshell, the forum enables members to share ideas so they can keep up to date with the latest tools and innovations. There are more than a dozen different forum topics including teaching & learning and educational technology, so members can discover as well as contribute new ideas that will help others spark creativity in the lecture theatre.

It’s really simple to start a new discussion – all you need to do is click on the collaborate tab on the top level navigation bar and fire away your questions or top tips. With more than 50,000 members, there is bound to be a member out there who shares your interests! Current discussions include everything from how to incorporate HTML5 into the classroom to the best ways to teach students how to use Photoshop.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the Adobe Education Exchange website for more information and start sharing today!

Calling UK lecturers: Details regarding entry to the 2012 Adobe Educators’ Choice Awards

From speaking to my lecturer friends, I’m always amazed by some of the ingenious lesson plans they create. At Adobe, we think it’s important they are rewarded for the hard work that goes into teaching our kids, which is why we’re offering great prizes to the lecturers that submit the best project, lesson plans and tutorials to the 2012 Educators’ Choice Awards.

Now in its second year, the 2012 Educators’ Choice Awards celebrates Adobe Education Exchange (AEE) members who submit the most innovative teaching and learning resources. Finalists will be selected by our esteemed team of judges on 22nd October 2012, with the winners voted for by members of the AEE community on 16th November 2012. Those that impress the most will then get the chance to win some amazing prizes, including laptops, iPads, and Adobe Creative Suite 6 software for themselves and their colleges.

The competition is open to educators across the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and the submission period closes on 5th October 2012. Each person is eligible to submit entries in the following three categories:

How to deploy Adobe Creative Suite 6 across your campus this summer

If your University’s looking to deploy Adobe Creative Suite 6 (CS6) across campus this summer, then this one’s for you. We’ve created a bunch of resources to help ensure a smooth installation process using Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition (AAMEE).

In a nutshell, AAMEE is a straightforward and customisable way to wrap CS6 applications as MSI or PKG packages for silent deployment across your campus. It means you can automatically enter and validate volume serial numbers over the internet prior to installation, choose which applications are installed, disable automatic updates, and turn off manual registration.

Take a look at this onDemand eSeminar to find out more. You can also download free guides and toolkits by clicking here.

It may be the summer, but IDI students are still learning!

I recently had an interesting conversation with a lecturer at the Interactive Design Institute (IDI) about how the institute is specialising in delivering degree level qualifications in art and design from the University of Hertfordshire, online. I was also surprised to learn that more than 300 students across 40 countries are enrolled on its courses and regularly achieve results which exceed the national average. All of their courses are delivered completely online so students can learn whenever they want and at a pace that suits them, irrespective of where they are – which is perfect for students if they’re also juggling families and jobs!

To supplement the online courses, students get personalised support thanks to a dedicated online tutor and student forum that they can use to bounce ideas around and get advice. They even have access to Adobe software and are able to use these industry standard tools for their studies.

Many of the students studying at IDI also have jobs or run their own businesses and make use of the skills and resources from their courses. In fact, I was told that one student on the Graphic Design course has used Adobe software to create print and online advertising materials for her husband’s new shop – what a great way to get industry experience! Students from the institute have also achieved some outstanding results in national and international competitions including the Adobe Design Achievement Awards where one student is through to the semi-final in the illustration category.

Here’s what one student has to say about this way of learning…

“I have two young children and am now expecting my third. I find it very challenging trying to manage my job with studying and looking after my family, but I found that IDI was so flexible and allowed me to do it all. I can’t say it’s easy, especially now that I’m studying full time, but it’s great that I can study whenever I find I have some free time, and can do it at my own pace and from home.” Tasnim Aragi

Collaborative teaching

Earlier this month, Adobe powered the UK’s first ever Creative Week, and what an exciting week it has was!

I am keen to draw your attention to one of the sessions that took place with Chris Thompson, Head of Business Development at Ravensbourne right at the start of the week, which I thought would prove inspiring.

Chris talked about the University’s unique approach to design education, which is just fascinating. Ravensbourne’s philosophy is about open and collaborative teaching and to make this happen, it has put a number of teaching platforms place.

One example that I wanted to share with you was its open plan teaching environment, which means its students all work and learn alongside each other irrespective of the course they are studying. It’s a great way of helping them to obtain skills they wouldn’t otherwise have had the chance to get.

Ravensbourne has also invested in Adobe’s Enterprise License Agreement, so students can access Adobe Creative Suite software to support their learning. Again this is irrespective of the course they are studying and is a great way of enabling them to learn different techniques. It essentially means a fashion student can access tools traditionally used by their peers studying graphic or web design – what a great way of working!

Anyway, Chris explains all this much better than I do, so check out his session on demand by visiting here.

Adobe Digital Media Education Summit 2012

We are now back from a jam-packed few days at the Adobe Digital Media Education Summit in Istanbul and wanted to tell you about the fantastic time we had!

The conference was a unique opportunity to hear from leading educators about how they implement digital media in film, video and design schools, as well as gaining insight into how technology ties into teaching goals.

We kicked the conference off on Tuesday evening with some welcome drinks at Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi, which gave us the opportunity to get to know the speakers and attendees we would be spending the next two days with.

Wednesday and Thursday were full of interesting workshops and heated debates, where we had the chance to hear from some of the best speakers in the industry including Andy Balzdell (CelAction), Lee Brimelow (Platform Evangelist, Adobe) and Sue Tong (The Illuminated Film Company).

Here’s a snapshot of what some of you were saying on Twitter:

Thanks so much to everyone that joined us in Istanbul – we couldn’t have done it without you.
