Tackling this summer’s Art and Design GCSE

For today’s post I wanted to share some information around a free onDemand webinar that will be of particular interest for anyone taking/teaching this year’s Art and Design GCSE!

Hosted by my fabulous Adobe Education Leader, Greg Hodgson from Chalfonts Community College, the webinar was set up by Creative Junction to help students across the UK get to grips with this summer’s externally set assignment.  For those involved in the exam, you’ll know by now that the theme is ‘Ordinary/Extraordinary’. To inspire students and help them get started, two contemporary artists Ben Bowen and Clare McEwan were invited into a live discussion to explain how they would each go about tackling the theme.

It’s truly amazing to see how an artist’s mind works. Just from those two words both Ben and Clare showed us the creative process they would go through – from research and brainstorming, right through to their scribbles and initial ideas.  Students were also able to interact with the artists using the chat function. I know I was inspired so it must have been a priceless experience for anyone taking the exam themselves!
