What’s new in AEM 6.1 forms
AEM 6.1 forms was released recently. Features in this release can be roughly categorized into two heads—New functionality and Integration with Adobe Marketing Cloud solutions. This release also includes numerous smaller enhancements and bug fixes.
With AEM 6.1 forms, you can create, manage, and deliver personalized and interactive customer correspondence. The new and modern HTML user interface enables creating modular and reusable fragments and templates for use in documents and correspondence suitable for delivery across multiple channels.
Adaptive documents centralize the creation of personalized, interactive, and device-friendly HTML-based digital correspondence, statements, and documents. You can quickly assemble digital correspondence, statements, and documents from both pre-approved and custom-authored content. Adaptive documents are responsive; their layout and design change automatically based on user device and settings.
HTML5 form set
Customers often need to find, fill, and submit multiple forms to apply for a service or benefit. To do this, they have to identify the correct set of eligible forms, and fill, submit, and track those forms individually. The process, generally, is tedious and error-prone.
To simplify the user experience, you can use form sets, which are collections of multiple HTML5 forms that you can present to your customers in a single set. Form sets can dynamically show or hide eligible forms based on user inputs. The data filled by the customer cascades from one form to another in a form set. In addition, a customer can submit all forms in a form set in a single transaction.
AEM 6.1 forms allow you to keep a network folder under constant monitoring. Such a folder is known as Watched Folder. When a file is placed in the Watched Folder, a preconfigured workflow, service, or script operation is started to process the file placed in the folder. After the completion of the specified operation, the result is saved in an output folder. You can use the Watched Folder for batch processing of documents.
Most digital forms provide a button to save a work-in-progress form. However, if a customer forgets to click Save and the form gets closed accidently, the loss of data can be frustrating. With AEM 6.1 forms, you can configure a form to save automatically at a regular interval or when a certain event triggers.
Prefill form fields for returning customers
End-users are often required to fill in a form afresh even for the services that they avail frequently, such as filing online tax returns or paying utility bills. With AEM 6.1 forms, customers who have already filled out a form do not have to type in the information for the same service requests again. The AEM forms portal provides the capability to fetch information directly from previously filled forms. It helps save customers’ time and effort in reapplying for a service.
PDF Generator service on OSGi stack
The PDF Generator service converts native file formats to PDF. It also converts PDF to other file formats and optimizes the size of PDF documents. This feature was already available in AEM forms on the JEE stack. Now, it is available on the OSGi stack as well.

Integration with Marketing Cloud solutions
You can now integrate AEM forms with Adobe Analytics, Adobe Campaign, and Adobe Target to achieve these goals:
- Track and measure end-user interactions
- Create, manage, and distribute targeted and personalized customer communications
- Run A/B tests on forms
There is a growing set of tasks that users expect to do on any platform—phone, tablet, desktop, or laptop. Users expect form creation, management, publishing, and integration with back-end processes, business rules, and data to work seamlessly irrespective of the underlying device or operating system. AEM 6.1 forms is the platform to do it all using a unified solution that has tightly integrated components talking seamlessly with one another.
