With Our Deepest Sympathy

Steve was a unique visionary and his influence as a technology innovator will be sorely missed. This is a sad day for the entire industry, and we offer our deepest sympathy to his family.

Below are thoughts from John Warnock and Chuck Geschke, Adobe co-founders and co-chairmen of the board:

“We met Steve Jobs about 3 months after we started Adobe. He called us and said: ‘I hear you guys are doing great things – can we meet?’ He came over to our tiny office in Mountain View and saw the early stages of PostScript. He got the concept immediately and we started about 5 months of negotiations over our first contract. Apple invested $2.5 million into Adobe and gave us an advance on royalties. This allowed us to help Apple build the first LaserWriter. Without Steve’s vision and incredible willingness to take risk, Adobe would not be what it is today. We owe an enormous debt to Steve and his vision.

We have always had great admiration and respect for Steve. The world is a better place because of him, and his absence will leave a huge hole in the world of technology.

We will miss him greatly.”

Difficult to say anything without using a superlative that hasn’t already been overused. But Steve was a visionary whose ideas were way ahead of the status quo and was also not afraid that things might not take off or what people would say. I hope Apple continues this legacy. RIP Steve…and thanks for all the good stuff. C

  2. Chris m Wiggs

He will be greatly miss by everyone!

He had such an impact in so many things that we take for granted now.

As a designer who would be very stuck without Macs, my Adobe software and the hordes of other tools that directly or indirectly came from Job’s legacy, I owe him many thanks.

  3. Suyog Shresth

Without Adobe I am not what I am today (Designer)
without Steve, Adobe is not what it is today.
Without Steve I am not what I am Today.

    Steve you will be remembered.

    Dear Apple Staff,

Steve Jobs was a genuine legend in the world of IT! He influenced far more than any IT entrepreneur on the consumer level. He was matchless in his approach to boost business and was very unique among his contemporaries. Not just Apple and iPhone lovers…but all IT enthusiasts and entrepreneurs will miss Steve.

Steve Jobs was Apple and Apple was Steve Jobs! He was a true master of innovation, knew how and when to take risks and above all an expert of fighting for his creativity in tougher times. His traits of following his intuition and an everlasting desire to bring something new to the IT world made him a legend.

We will always remember his quote:

‎”Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let

the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already

know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs

The Vitalsoft team will always remember the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs in our memories and looks at his career and works as remarkable achievements, in fact things that brought about a revolution in the consumer world.

We extend our deepest condolences to the staff of Apple and Steve’s family upon his untimely death, wishing them all the best to enjoy the fruits of his diligence, labor and legacy! The Vitalsoft equally shares the grief with Apple and mourns for not having him anymore now. May he RIP

    With Condolences & Regards,

    Muhammad MaqsoodurRehman

Steve Jobs will be truly missed. He has done some much good in his lift time and his dream will carry on as his dream carries on. He has made it that children with Autism can communicate with people he gave them a voice. Thank you for that. Thank you for all of your intelligence and making the world a better place to live in as his dream flourished. The most important is the voice he gave to the handicap world. as a parent we all thank you. Keeping yourself happy in what you have done in your life time is important also so your dreams can flow. My greatest sympathies to his family R.I.P. Steve Jobs.THANK YOU

If he helped you that much, why don’t adobe flash player doesn’t work on iPad no iPhone? I mean after all he was the who invested the money and i quote :”Without Steve’s vision and incredible willingness to take risk, Adobe would not be what it is today.” so apple products should be the first to get adobe fresh products.

To a man who was a genius in his own time. A man who has given autistic people a voice. Weather it was intentional or unintentional. Thank you for that. Thank you for sharing your generosity to the school and helping further education for our children with your generous donations and grants. So many thing to thank you for but as I have said before “THANK YOU FOR GIVING PEOPLE A VOICE WHO DO NOT HAVE ONT”. THAT IS THE BEST THING THAT YOU HAVE EVER DONE R.I.P. STEVE JOBS

I have to wonder what my profession/life as a graphic designer would have been like with out Steve Jobs and Apple. I started working on a Mac at my college newspaper in 1988. I got my first design job out of school because of my experience working on a Mac. Today I’m still working as a designer on a Mac, listening to music on my iPod and at home I’m reading and watching TV on my iPad, that is when my son has not taken it to play games. Can’t imagine what life would have been like.

Our creative industry would not be where it is today without the synergies between Apple and Adobe. The incredible vision and foresight shared by both companies has created an incredible evolution in content creation and accessibility to the masses. In Steve’s vision, these tools have elevated human creativity and unleashed creative potential in ways unforeseen only a few years ago. Never before has a such a collaboration changed not only an industry, but an entire culture so quickly and universally.
We will miss Steve’s vision. He’s left big shoes to fill but provided a path to get us there.
Thank you to both companies for the original vision that continues to leap our industry forward by providing these amazing creative toolkits.

  13. Spencer

I love these thoughts and story from John and Chuck. Many times I wish I would have been a fly on the wall in those days. But in 30 years from now, I hope to be able to talk about the cool stuff I am a part of now.

  14. Ellie Gates

Steve Jobs has had a profound impact on the world, not just with the technology he produced, but through his unrelenting passion to buck traditional methods and design things people didn’t even know they wanted.

It’s interesting to me how Microsoft, Adobe, and other companies were impacted both through direct contact with him and competition. I’m grateful for strong competitors as they always serve to sharpen us. This is a big loss for our industry and generation.

The world will be forever changed by his life and I hope that I can leave a fraction of the dent in the universe he did through my own passion and relentless pursuit of excellence.

  15. Greg Pisocky

As a person, a customer, an Adobe employee, and an individual contributor fortunate enough to work in an industry Steve Jobs helped define, I join the worldwide chorus lamenting his passing.

  16. Brandon

If one of the Adobe leaders dies, will apple feel sorry for Adobe and allow flash on at least iPad? jkjk

On a more serious note, Mr. Jobs has to be one of the most iconic and influential person ever. Goodbye Steve, You will be greatly missed. RIP

Has any one man done so much to change the way we live our lives? Since, perhaps, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison.

Steve Jobs is one and only , there is noway anyone can fill the void left by a great visionary .There is a saying ” create your own path rather than follow the same old path” , there are very few people in the world who do that and i think steve jobs is one of them and because of his efforts now there will be a generation who will be marching in the path created by him.

  23. Lysle

Wow I am astonished by all the sincere posts commemorating steve jobs by adobe staff and fans. That is very kind, my view on humankind has improved. 🙂

  24. Stefanie Herwig

thank you so much for inspiring my daily work as a designer for over 15 years now.
I already loved the spirit and genius of apple products a long time before everbody wanted to have them for music-listening oder making phone conversation.
Thanks to you I can focus “ON MY WORK” and don’t have to think about “HOW IT WORKS or WHY IT DOESN’T WORK” 🙂 (sorry to windows) — a designer’s job is hard enough, being creative on command … so

    Adobe and Apple,
please keep up your great work,
    THANK YOU !!!
And please find a solution for flash on the iphone 🙂

  26. Sameer

Kudos for Adobe for posting this, after the whole Flash thing and all. I know Adobe and Steve had issues as of late, but the DNA of both of them are the same. Here’s hoping the relationship with Apple and Adobe continues for the better. Sad to see Mr. Job’s leave the world.

  30. Valerie Encheff

Steve is truly the worlds most conceptual thinking visionary who leaves behind a legacy that shall remain unparalled for many years to come. Rest in Peace, Steve. Thank you for enabling me to have a successful career as a Graphic Designer. I could not have done it without you.

QuickTime aside, I don’t use Apple’s stuff and am basically always at the opposing side. I thank him for making Apple a formidable opponent that makes other competitors, Adobe included, strong.

    Rest in peace, Steve.

  34. Michael Moonbird

Steve helped to spark the creative genius in myself and others. I appreciate Apple and Adobe. They are a part of my life every single day!

I’ve seen a lot of people come and go, but the response to Steve Job’s passing today is one of the most profound. It’s obvious that he touched many lives. His brilliance will be missed on this earth. This is truly a sad day. R.I.P. Steve Jobs.

Apple and Adobe both continues to make the world a better place by innovating day after another.

Steve jobs was a genius and though he is not anymore with us now but he will continue to inspire many more of us and his thoughts will always keep lingering our hearts.

    Rest in peace Steve!!!!

    R.I.P. Steve Jobs

Thank you for everything. You’ll be in our hearts and creative minds forever. Not only were you a man of risk and vision you were also the one who made my dreams when it comes to technologies true.

    Thank you!
    You’ll be never forgotten!

  39. Steve Luiting

In 1987 I was ready to quit working in the graphic design field until I went back to school and saw one of the first Macs and changed my mind.

As a creative I was frustrated with how much work it took to do even the simplest print design piece.

Again, Thanks to Steve Jobs I have had a great career doing creative work instead of whatever I would have done if he hadn’t changed the World.

  40. King

Respect to a man who changed the world for good, an adict to work a man ahead of our time and wanted to share with us all his vision …. a thousand thanks Steve…

  41. James A Malloy

THANKS STEVE missed deeply. But you will live on thru the technology that you developed and inspired.

  42. devang

Steve you will be missed. You had courage to think different. It will take ages, to have another genius like you!

  43. Dr Hilary Rhodes

I am so sad that Steve has had to suffer so much in his relatively short life, though there is no doubt that it was a fulfilling one. Steve has brought so much joy to so many people through his ideas and imagination. He developed a computer which was for ‘the rest of us”. He could look at a product and make it something else, something better, something more aesthetically pleasing than all the rest that were available.

I have enjoyed Apple products since 1987. I would not even look at a computer before then. I used Apple products during the good times and the bad. I remember when Steve returned, and as the years went by, and more products were released, how so many of us were surprised and delighted by “one more thing”.

We all hoped that Steve could survive the onslaught of his terrible illness, and he stood his ground bravely to the end.

Thank you Steve, for giving us the tools to make a difference to our lives in such a positive way.

As I am a graphic and multimedia designer and teacher, I used all the wonderful tools that Adobe and Apple have to offer.

  44. malia

Thank you for having a dream and making come true. You have been a part of all of lifes through your products from the begining with apple computer to now with the I pad & I phone. You will be missed, but always be remember when we use your products by listening music, talking on our I phones or just playing games or surching the web the I pad.. Thank you again for making your dream reality for us to enjoy…You wiil be missed and May your legend continue to live on.. Rest in Peace

I was at Adobe in those early days and got to meet Steve Jobs before the ink was dry on the PostScript/LaserWriter deal. Adobe and Apple’s success were inexorably tied together. Without the PostScript deal, Adobe might not have succeeded. It certainly would have taken a different path. Without killer apps like Illustrator, PageMaker (Aldus), Photoshop, Director (Macromedia), and Premier, Apple and the Mac would not have become such an incredible success amongst creative professionals. Adobe Type Manager (ATM) and the extensive Adobe Type Library gave another bump to the quality and capabilities of the Apple world.

Adobe worked closely with Jobs’ NeXT Computer Company to build Display PostScript. That development lead ultimately to both today’s Mac OS X graphics system and the creation of Acrobat and PDF.

Apple’s iPhoto and iMovie and Final Cut were inspired and influenced by Photoshop and Premier.

The two companies have been intertwined in a love/hate relationship since 1983. Much of Adobe’s success must be credited to Jobs, Apple, and NeXT. Similarly, Apple would not be what it is today without Adobe.

I had the great good fortune to meet Steve on a couple of occasions. I was in attendance when the Mac and LaserWriter where introduced, when he brought Hermann Zapf to the Apple campus for a weekend series of lectures, and when the NeXT computer was introduced. His passion and genius were undeniable and inspiring.

Steve helped inspire us at Adobe to do our best.

RIP Steve. You are already missed.
