NAB 2015: The video trends taking the industry by storm

I’ve just returned from the NAB Show 2015 in Vegas, the world’s largest international broadcast convention, where tens of thousands of people from the world of media and entertainment content have gathered to showcase their latest and greatest technologies.

Staying ahead of the curve is crucial for the broadcasters of today if they want to succeed in delivering content to audiences across the globe. With thousands of video professionals out at NAB this year, I got the chance to find out more about the video trends that are currently taking the industry by storm.

Live streaming

More and more, broadcasters are trying to reach consumers through live streaming. For instance, this year The Oscars streamed its backstage show to viewers on Facebook for free and recent figures from Ovum suggest that more than 100 million people will subscribe to a streaming video-on-demand service by the end of the year. What can we take away from this? Broadcasters need to ensure they have the right tools in place to meet this global demand for live streaming.

Growth in viewing content on mobile

Watching video on mobile devices and optimising content for mobile is a hot topic at the moment. The popular series Modern Family recently shot and aired an entire episode on the iPhone, and recent findings from our own Digital Index – the Digital Video 2014 Inaugural Report shows that video viewing on mobile devices may overtake desktop video viewing by Q4 2016. To meet this need, filmmakers need to ensure that the content they are producing is optimised for various screen sizes, whether that be TV, cinema, mobiles or tablets.

Ultra HD

As home entertainment grows in popularity and major manufacturers continue to bring out super ultra HD TVs that rival cinema screens, broadcasters need to be able to shoot and edit content that provides viewers with an immersive entertainment experience.

Amidst all the buzz and excitement on the show floor, at Adobe we have also just announced a raft of new updates that will improve how broadcasters, filmmakers and video professionals create, collaborate, deliver and monetise content across different devices. To learn more, check out the latest developments, including updates to After Effects and Premiere Pro.
