Available now: Adobe Animate CC 2015.2

Following Animate’s rebirth just a few months ago, our latest update is focused on expressivity, performance and time saving, and additional publishing options for the web. This release is essential for animators, designers and advertisers who want to create amazing animations for everything from mobile devices to the latest high resolution displays.

Pattern Brushes

Paint a vector pattern along the path or stretch to its entire length. You can use the integrated global library within Animate to use Art and Pattern brushes. In addition to the default brush presets, you can import new Pattern Brushes to your Animate document using the CC Libraries. See them in action here.

Frame Picker

(graphic symbol thumbnails)

Visually preview and choose the first frame for a graphic symbol. In previous releases, you could not preview the frames without getting within the symbol. This feature enhances the user experience for animation workflows such as Lip Sync.

Layer Transparency

You can now skip manual workarounds and sketch on top of other layers right inside Animate. To set the visibility of the layer to transparent, Shift+Click on the eye column in the timeline.

Improved Web Publishing Options

Merging JSON/JS Code

Animate embeds JSON file into JS. When you create a Spritesheet during canvas publishing, no external Json file is created and is included within the JS instead by default.

With this change, you can even preview the published files locally without hosting them on a server (as before).

Embed JavaScript into HTML

You can now include a JS file within your HTML file when publishing Canvas documents.

Support for Transparent Backgrounds with Canvas

You can now make the background transparent in a Canvas document to see the underlying HTML content. To do so, use the Alpha % to set the transparency level and the No Color swatch option to completely set the canvas stage to transparent.

HiDPI-compatible HTML5 Canvas Output

Projects published in HTML5 Canvas now support the latest Hi-DPI and Retina displays.

Responsive Scaling

With more and more Animate content being published in HTML, responsive animations are essential. Animate can now resize published content based on various form factors to look awesome on mobile devices.

We’ve been hard at work with this latest update and are excited to see what you’ll create with it. Check out our complete list of updates, and don’t forget to tag your projects on social media with #madewithanimate!

    Thanks, looks great!
About the layer transparency: When you right click a layer and use ‘Show Others Transparent’, the only way to go back to normal is Shift+Click the eye 2 times?

    • By Mohanaraj C S - 11:05 AM on June 23, 2016

A single Shift+Click on a visible layer will set the layer to 50% transparent. In addition Transparent property is exposed in Layer Properties dialog, so you can select the desired layers right click and choose Properties… to modify the transparent property or set it to Visible option to go back to normal.

Rich, I needed a good laugh this morning, I thought Marty McFly from Back To The Future Part Duo, was going to be my only one:):)—……

My .zxp extensions are no longer available in the Command menu. I’ve re-installed using both the Manage Extensions utility and the command line method, and in the case of the former the utility confirms the extensions are installed but they are not in the menu when I open Animate CC 2015.2.

I like the Frame Picker! (Although this is because I no longer have access to an extension that allowed me to scroll through frames of a symbol without clicking into it!)

    • By Ajay Shukla - 10:57 PM on June 22, 2016

      Hi Hamish,

I dropped you a mail to find out more about the issue.

      • By Ivan - 6:59 AM on June 27, 2016

Hi Ajay, I am having the same problem as Hamish.
Manage Animate CC Extensions utility says my extensions are installed, but I can’t access them in my Commands. Any help available?

        • By Ajay Shukla - 8:14 AM on June 27, 2016

I will have someone reach out to you to sort this out.

You’re doing wonderful work Adobe! But I don’t see the alpha channel for the canvas..

    • By Ajay Shukla - 10:03 PM on June 23, 2016

      Hi Adam,

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by alpha channel.

      • By Adam J - 2:05 AM on June 24, 2016

Sorry, I mean that I see no option to make the canvas transparent.

        • By Adam J - 2:12 PM on June 27, 2016

Yup, still not seeing it. I choose the arrow selection tool and then go to the canvas options, I click the color box and the swatches come up, isnt there supposed to be an alpha channel on the top right of the swatches box?

          • By Marieke - 3:59 AM on July 8, 2016

The option to make a canvas stage transparent is in the properties panel.

Will there be an update to Cory Hudson’s AdHelper Doubleclick ready banner ad templates to account for the new built in high DPI support?

    • By Ajay Shukla - 9:51 PM on June 23, 2016

Glad that you liked his blogpost. Yes we are working on an update.

  • By Marcus - 8:20 AM on June 24, 2016

    Still no video support?

  • By Susan - 1:03 PM on June 24, 2016

Question regarding high DPI. I currently author at 2X because I want imported bitmaps to look good on retina devices. My common sense wonders how it would be possible for bitmaps created at 1X, could magically have more data for high DPI.

Adobe Animate CC 2015.2 will not open for me. Installed update and program no longer opens. Any help?

    • By Ajay Shukla - 9:04 PM on July 10, 2016

      Have you tried re-installing it.

I am using Flash and was following a tutorial that said I should have a CC but underneath my motion presets but I do not have this option. I am using CC, all versions updated. I tried using both Flash and Animate but it is not in either. Can you advise?

    • By Ajay Shukla - 9:18 PM on July 18, 2016

Can you please elaborate on which options are missing from the UI and which tutorial you were following.

  • By Adrian - 11:39 AM on July 13, 2016

Was nice to see Adobe Animate had everything covered when Google dropped support for Swiffy last week. Kinda put a bunch of projects into a spin, but I was able to convert everything over seamlessly and very impressed with the output JS/spritesheet. Good work, Adobe is still the only one to have the best tooling for the job.

      Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the kind words. You made our day. 🙂

Hi guys I have had 3 occasions where Adobe Animate CC 2015.2 has suddenly shut down. It’s rare but is happening. No errors, no prompt to save open flas, no post-quit OS dialogs. I have recently upgraded to Win 10 but it was happening under Win 7 also. I have a hunch it may be related to leaving the app open overnight and the OS coming back from sleep (no runtimes during sleep just open flas). Anyway just a heads up and if there’s any log I can send if it happens again please point me to it.

I like the include javascript feature, but would welcome it even more if used images (jpg/png) would be automatically included too. I mean by converting them to base64 text and include them also in the html. That way when publishing I would get a totally self contained single html5 file. Just like that single Swiffy file where all was included into one file. Some companies ask specifically for a single html5 file without any assets. This last step would make this possible. I know how to convert an image to base64, but there is no way to replace the manifest-src line with that base64 code

While I don’t use animate as frequently as I do DreamweaverCC, PhotoshopCC and other CC programs I believe it was after the last udpate that Animate CC went bizarro, total unusable. Menus clip content right and bottom margins. No scroll bars, tools don’t work 75% of the time. When you make a line, brush mark, square rectangle etc they appear 100 or more pixels to the right of where you intended. I have uninstalled and installed 3 times with same results. I am working on a page online with screenshots and (crude) video 🙂 and would appreciate any feedback please and thankyou.

    • By Thomas Murray - 6:56 AM on August 16, 2016

The solution to this problem was given to me by Mohanaraj C S who I thank for his patience with me. In my Control Panel I had custom scaling set to 125% and after lowering it back to 100% all is well and works in Animate

Hi. Thanks for an excellent app.
It would be GREAT to import a video-clip to the HTML5 Canvas!

  • By Janet Slinkard - 3:17 PM on August 17, 2016

Hi Guys – The new features look amazing, but here’s the thing: I’ve got an entire elementary school curriculum developed in Flash. I need to know if I can successfully migrate tons of interactive lessons (from Flash CS6 to AnimateCC) without causing the entire kingdom to come crashing down upon my head. As it stands right now, I’m actually afraid to upgrade. Any thoughts?

    • By Ajay Shukla - 8:02 PM on August 18, 2016

Animate is backward compatible with Flash Pro. You should be able to migrate to Animate CC.

      • By Janet Slinkard - 8:53 AM on August 19, 2016

Can you recommend any in-depth documentation on migration from Flash Pro to Animate CC? I am also eager to learn about Animate CC’s option to export to HTML5, and how that might affect the future of our educational program.

You see, it is not only our interactive lessons that are built in Flash, but our student interface portal, as well.

I am also curious about how Google Chrome’s decision to discontinue flash support will affect Animate CC?

        • By Ajay Shukla - 8:11 PM on September 8, 2016

          Hi Janet,

You can see plenty of documentation here on our blogs as well as the “Learn & Support” section of our product page at Animate now supports publishing to Flash, AIR, HTML5 Canvas and WebGL and can be extended to support additional platforms like SnapSVG. The idea is to use a single tool to create content on multiple platforms. The tool therefore is platform independent. You can also migrate your art assets and animations from one platform to another.

Finally, please feel free to join our pre-release if you are interested in giving us inputs on how the product should evolve to help with your specific usecases, here –

THANK YOU FOR THE FRAME PICKER!!! For years I have been using extensions that do similar things to help with workflow. MUCH NEEDED and super glad you’ve integrated it into the program! Thank you!
