Siggraph 2014 is here!
When it comes to computer graphics, there really isn’t a better tradeshow to know what’s hot and coming in the world of graphics technology. The name itself implies innovation (Special Interest Group on GRAPHics) and is the perfect ‘geek-out’ week: August 12-14. 2014.
Adobe’s Presence & Partners
A bunch of Adobe folk will be participating in partner booths at Siggraph so come by and see what’s new in After Effects and Premiere Pro. Also, you may run into me and some After Effects engineers checking out the new technology that the show is sure to bring to us in the future.
You’ll also see some brand new innovation from:
AMD is on fire with their FirePro graphics card for Adobe products. Adobe’s Dave Helmly will be speaking in their booth about how Adobe Premiere Pro takes advantage of FireWire Pro graphics. Theatre times and demos will be at 10am on Tuesday, 2pm on Wednesday, and 9:30am on Thursday.
Acceleration—faster than before–is on the Intel docket this year and OpenCV and GPU acceleration with IRISPro is their story. Dave Helmly will be speaking at Intel’s rapid-fire Ignite talk on Tuesday at 12pm and in their booth’s theatre at 4:30pm on Wednesday and 10:45am on Thursday.
Our friends at Maxon are pulling out all the stops at Siggraph and have an amazing line up of speakers talking about Cinema 4D and After Effects. Stop by their booth and check out their amazing line up. They’re also streaming online at www.c4dlive.com. Don’t miss Lorcan O’Shanahan’s use of After Effects on the movie Enders Game. It’s pretty cool stuff.
The Ultimate Prize Fight contest
Also, check out WinC4D, a contest website where artists using After Effects CC and Cinema 4D Lite can compete for a full copy of Cinema 4D Broadcast in quarterly, theme-related animation contests. The first competition, “The Ultimate Prize Fight” is underway. The grand prize winning entry will be chosen by a panel comprised of some of today’s most acclaimed 3D artists. The contest ends on September 30, so be sure to get your 10-second or less animation entries going for your best shot at winning.
Check out NVIDIA’s cascaded displays which shows off some pretty high-resolutions that you can’t get with a regular monitor as well as the GPU Acceleration when using Adobe Illustrator. You’ll also see their GRID™ Technolgies.
Wednesday is a big day for Adobe at the NVIDIA booth too. At 10:40am Jeff Brue, CTO of Open Drives and Post Production Engineer for House of Cards and Fox’s upcoming Gone Girl, will discuss the infrastructure challenges and solutions of working in 6K. The talk will cover system requirements and the unique scenarios that arise when visual effects is integrated in a deep manner into editorial through Adobe Premiere. Jeff will also discuss designing large-scale editorial and VFX deployments with HP and NVIDIA. After this presentation at 11:15am, Dave Helmly showcases the new features in Premiere and After Effects.
Check out the demos going on every day in the main lobby. Adobe’s Colin Smith will be demoing Adobe Premiere Pro daily: 3pm on Tuesday, 11am on Wednesday, and 10am on Thursday.
