An Update: Creative Cloud and Support for Mac OS X

We’re hard at work on the next major release of Creative Cloud, and wanted to share some information on updated operating system requirements for members using Mac OS X.

In order to take advantage of the latest operating system features and technologies, the next major release of Creative Cloud will require Mac OS X 10.9 or higher.

If you’re running an older version of Mac OS X, such as 10.7 or 10.8, you can continue to run and install current and previous versions of the Creative Cloud applications, but will not be able to install or run the next major release of the Creative Cloud desktop applications until you upgrade to a supported version of OS X. Apple provides a free update to the latest version of OS X (10.10).

Creative Cloud Desktop, which manages application installs, will continue to be supported on OS X 10.7 and above.

In addition, the next major release of Lightroom will be supported on OS X 10.8 and above.

Focusing our efforts on more modern versions of Mac OS X allows us to concentrate on developing the features and functionality most requested by members.

A Small(er)-Screen(s) Version of Adobe Illustrator Draw

Optimized for the large (and larger) screens of the iPhone 6 (and 6 Plus) Adobe Illustrator Draw for iPhone works on any iPhone running iOS 7.1 or later.

Yep, that’s right. Adobe’s popular freeform vector drawing iPad app, is now available in an iPhone version. And it’s in the iTunes App Store… along with an update for Adobe Illustrator Draw for iPad (more on that further down).

Different. But the same.

This initial release of Draw for iPhone differs from Draw for iPad in only two (minor) ways: There’s no stylus or Touch Slide support and no integration with Adobe Shape CC. Other than that, Draw for iPhone consists of the same vector drawing tools and controls organized in the same UI as Draw for iPad. Which means, a whole long list of features:

  • Five expressive vector pens and an eraser.
  • The ability to customize drawing tools for opacity, size, and color.
  • One photo layer and up to ten drawing layers for each drawing.
  • Layer controls with the ability to duplicate, merge, flip and scale, and define layer opacity.
  • Up to 6400% zoom for finessing details.
  • The ability to send drawings as vectors to Adobe Illustrator CC, or incorporate them into designs in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CC.

If the iPhone provides what seems a scant drawing surface, there’s still Adobe Draw for iPad. And, although it may be hard to believe, we’ve made it even better with the inclusion of an often-requested feature: an Eyedropper to quickly and accurately sample colors.

We’ve also added support for Pencil by FiftyThree and Wacom’s Intuous Creative Stylus for iPad, (along with Adobe Ink and Adonit Jot Touch). And, now, not only are drawings automatically saved to the Projects folder (so even work you’re-not-yet-sure-you-care-about can’t be lost) but now that there’s also Draw for iPhone, drawings will automatically sync between the two devices when someone is using both versions of the app.

Get the update in the iTunes App Store and get drawing with a better-than-ever version of Adobe Draw for iPad.

And what about Adobe Ideas?

Been using Adobe Ideas and worried about getting projects out of that app and into Adobe Draw? Don’t. Import all of them or bring in just a few: Included in both the Draw for iPad update and the Draw for iPhone release is the ability to do a speedy batch import of existing Adobe Ideas files saved to Creative Cloud.

Creative Cloud Libraries: Popping-up Somewhere New

When we launched Creative Cloud Libraries in October 2014 we knew we had a feature on our hands that would take the headache out of managing creative assets—a place to store creative bits, where they would be organized and readily available.

Thing is, until today, Creative Cloud Libraries has been incorporated only in Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC, and mobile apps like Adobe Brush CC and Adobe Color CC. Needless to say, since its launch at Adobe MAX, Adobe InDesign CC users have been clamoring for access to it.

Creative Cloud Libraries… It’s part of InDesign CC.

Starting now, InDesign CC users have CC Libraries. No more having assets on the wrong computer or scrambling to find the latest version of a graphic. CC Libraries means knowing exactly where creative assets are. Always.

It also means the ability to share assets with an entire creative team, between ID files, and across InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator CC.

And, since we know a lot of designers have populated InDesign CC’s native libraries with the graphic elements (text frames, linked graphics or groups of objects) they use regularly, those assets (all or a selection) can be easily migrated into CC Libraries. That’s a new library with the same content and the same name as the native library.

CC Libraries. Got it. What else is new for InDesign CC?

IDMUDW_1IDInDesign CC (along with Adobe Dreamweaver CC) has not only added in-app learning content with tutorials for every experience level (that means, no longer having to leave the application to learn something new), the team didn’t stop there. It also incorporated some user-requested features that make everyday tasks easier:

  • Save time. Draw tables without text frames. When creating tables, it’s no longer necessary to first create a text frame.
  • No guessing. No hassle. The Print Current Page option (in the Print dialog and Pages panel flyout) prints the active page in the InDesign window or selected pages/spreads from the Pages panel.
  • Do the work once. On by default in the Layers flyout menu, Ungroup Remembers Layers ensures that when something is “ungrouped,” items that were originally on separate layers will return to them.

Hoping for more update news? We have it. Adobe Muse CC is faster, smoother, and more intuitive.

IDMUDW_2MUThe Adobe Muse team continues to respond to user feedback with updates that improve app quality and performance, and remove the bottlenecks in everyday tasks. There are literally dozens of improvements; a few of our favorite one-click options sure to speed-up work:

  • Superscript, Subscript, Uppercase, and Lowercase text buttons provide more flexibility when working with type.
  • A Clear All Styling option removes any styling (fill, stroke, text styles) for a selected page, and a Clear Widget Content option removes all content (slideshows, accordion panels, contact forms) from a selected widget.
  • Delete unused layers with a single click.
  • A Show Where Used option highlights where background images, bullet/list styles, uploaded assets, and paragraph, character and graphic styles have been used throughout layouts.

  • Select, hold, and drag an image from the Extract panel into Live View to launch the Element Quick View panel for precise image insertion.
  • New creatively-named color-theme templates offer more options for customizing and personalizing Code View.

More Control over Web Fonts with Typekit Update

Over at Typekit, we’ve just launched some major improvements to our language subsetting options.

The update provides more fine-tuned control over exactly which languages are supported on your websites—which in turn can hugely improve load times for webpages. The new UI also gives better visibility into the OpenType features that are included with a font, which will open up a lot more potential for advanced typesetting on the web.

Subsetting has been one of our most-requested features, and we’re delighted to make it available to everyone. If you’d like to learn more about using it, see the Typekit blog for details.

Version 1.9—An Update for Creative Cloud for Desktop

We’re excited to announce the release of version 1.9 of Adobe Creative Cloud for desktop. It brings several new features and improvements that help you stay up-to-date and increase your productivity.

Some key highlights of the release

  • Creative Cloud for desktop now automatically detects and downloads any update available for Creative Cloud for desktop, so you no longer have to track and install updates manually. To enable auto-update, just select Always keep Creative Cloud for desktop up to date when installing an update. You can, at any time, enable or disable the auto-update setting from the General tab in the Preferences dialog for Creative Cloud for desktop.

 

  • Font syncing from Typekit is now enabled by default, so you will no longer need to Turn on Typekit to start syncing and using fonts in your favorite applications. If you need to turn syncing off, you can do this anytime from Preferences > Fonts in Creative Cloud desktop. For information about adding and managing Typekit fonts, see Add fonts from Typekit.
  • If you’re a Creative Cloud for enterprise customer, your employees will soon be able to sign in using their Federated ID with Single Sign-On support.

 

Also in the latest version of Creative Cloud for desktop

  • You can now sync files and fonts quickly and seamlessly even when switching Internet connections. For information about managing assets, see Browse, sync, and manage assets.

So, what are you waiting for? Install the latest update for Creative Cloud for desktop and take full advantage of the cool features and improvements we’ve made.

How to update

You’ll be prompted to update when you relaunch Creative Cloud for desktop. If you do not relaunch the app, you’ll get an update notification in 24 hours. Click Install Now to download and install the latest version, and then relaunch the app.

If you’re a new user and have not installed Creative Cloud for desktop yet, the latest version is available for download from Creative Cloud Download Center.

Check which version of the app you’re using

  1. Launch Creative Cloud for desktop, and sign in with your Adobe ID.
  2. Click the gear icon, and choose Preferences > General.
  3. Click the Account.

End-of-The-Year Updates for Adobe Illustrator Line and Photoshop Sketch

Our teams have been busy making Adobe Photoshop Sketch and Adobe Illustrator Line even better.

LineSketch Both apps have been updated with powerful new features to help take your drawing further. A quick look at the features in the 2.1 versions:

FiftyThree and Wacom stylus support

Both Sketch and Line now support Pencil by FiftyThree and Wacom’s Intuos Creative Stylus 1, Intuos Creative Stylus 2, and the new Bamboo Stylus Fineline:

  • Connect Pencil to Sketch or Line to draw freely with palm rejection. Flip Pencil to erase marks on the canvas.
  • Press the button on your Wacom stylus to bring up the Pen Tip Menu in Sketch and Line for fast access to color and tool selection.

That’s not all…

  • Auto save and recovery: Both Sketch and Line now save drawings periodically so if your iPad crashes or its battery runs out, your work will be recovered when you launch the app again. (Your drawings are always backed up to Creative Cloud.)
  • Draw with the size tools that you prefer in Photoshop Sketch: Change the size of any of the built-in tools, or the brushes from Adobe Brush CC; simply long-press on any of the tools and a size slider appears for adjustment.
  • Improved Shape selection in Illustrator Line: We’ve updated the UI for shape selection to be more visual; quickly view and select all of the shapes available in built-in Trace and Stamp shapes.
  • Performance and bug fixes: We’ve been hard at work fixing bugs and improving performance across both apps.

The updated versions of Adobe Illustrator Line and  Adobe Photoshop Sketch are available now (free) in the iTunes App Store. We hope you like the improvements!

We often need to access files, folders, and media from anywhere, on different desktops and devices, and share our work with others in any location—as quickly and as seamlessly as possible.

It’s your gateway to managing your Creative Cloud storage, syncing and sharing files with collaborators, and getting notified about all your activities from one central location.

Hassle-free asset syncing

You no longer have to worry about managing assets across computers and devices. Your work is always at your fingertips. You can edit and organize work on your desktop, and seamlessly sync multiple files and folders to all connected devices—including creations that you make with mobile apps such as Adobe Illustrator Draw and Adobe Photoshop Sketch.

Syncing files is as simple as copying and pasting, or moving files to the Creative Cloud Files directory on your computer. From an app, just choose File > Save or File > Save As and navigate to the Creative Cloud Files directory on your computer. What’s more, once the files are synced, you don’t have to be online to view them.

You can view the files offline from the Creative Cloud Files directory on your computer. At any time, you can access the synced assets online by selecting View on Web from the Assets > Files section of Creative Cloud for desktop. Easy file and folder sharing

Working with teams is even easier now; sharing a folder with other Creative Cloud users takes just a few clicks. You can share a folder with specific Creative Cloud users, who can view, edit, rename, move, and work collaboratively with assets in the shared folder. Read more about collaboration in this article.

The robust file versioning capabilities in Creative Cloud enable you to keep track of updates to the shared files while allowing you revert to older versions whenever you need to. Here’s a neat FAQ that answers any questions you may have about file versioning in Creative Cloud.

If you want to share a project to get feedback on your work, you can share a link to the folder with read-only access. Sharing a link with someone, gives them a high fidelity preview of the assets directly in the web browser without requiring them to install Creative Cloud for desktop. Selectively sync collaboration folders

When you accept an invitation to collaborate on shared folders, all the folders for which you’ve accepted invitations are synchronized by default.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to stick with the default. Creative Cloud for desktop lets you selectively sync shared folders; this feature gives you greater control over what content is synchronized while also letting you conserve disk space.

Selectively syncing folders is as simple as right-clicking/Control-clicking the Creative Cloud Files folder on your desktop, and choosing Select Shared Folders To Sync. You can then select specific folders that you want to sync. For step-by-step details, see this article.

Handy preferences and notifications

The Preferences settings in Creative Cloud for desktop enable you to effectively manage your Creative Cloud storage, folder location, sync settings, and more.

At any time, you can use the Preference settings to pause file syncing, turn syncing on/off, and even set the upload/download transfer speed while syncing. Notifications for all these activities are displayed in the Activity Stream of the Home panel in Creative Cloud for Desktop.
