XD Design For Good
When we think of user experience design, often our thoughts turn to a digital interface and the way a user navigates it. According to Jason Ulaszek, founder of international design agency Inzovu and co-founder of non-profit UX For Good, user experience design is about so much more than this. But what does this actually look like, and how can designers embrace a UX for good approach when it comes to their own work?
The AFC (formerly the Actors’ Fund of Canada) provides emergency financial assistance to entertainment industry professionals in need. The AFC had been using an ever-expanding version of an application form since around 2000, and over time had become cluttered and unwieldy.
Together with business partner Jeff Leitner, Jason Ulaszek founded UX for Good, a not-for-profit organization that runs design challenges to solve social problems. In 2014, UX for Good was approached by the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda. The Memorial was facing a critical problem, and UX for Good set out to use design to solve it.
