Under the Northern Lights
The aurora borealis is a spectacular natural phenomenon that many dream of witnessing at least once in their lives. It occurs when particles from a solar flare collide with the earth’s atmosphere and release bursts of light, which to our eyes, look like the shimmering ribbons of light in the sky.
A common name for the aurora borealis is the Northern Lights, because it happens in the northernmost parts of the world, near the Arctic Circle. It’s counterpart, Aurora Austrealis or the Southern Lights, appears in the southern hemisphere. For those living in these polar locations, the aurora is a common sighting in the colder months.
For those of us not fortunate enough to witness this spectacle in real life, here are some of the most stunning images and videos of the aurora for your enjoyment from the comfort of your home courtesy of Adobe Stock.
